Sam Kass Hired on as White House Chef by President Barack Obama

New White House Chef Sam Kass Also Worked for the Obama's when They Were Living in Chicago

White House Chef Sam Kass. It certainly has a good ring to it if you are Sam Kass, the newest chef to join the White House staff. Kass was hired on by President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama to be one of the chefs for them at the White House. After working for the Obama's as their chef back in Chicago, it was just the next step for him to be brought along for the ride. Keeping the familiarity in food preparation was indeed a big part of the decision, and Kass got a nice career advancement.

It was probably a very easy decision for the Obama's to bring Sam Kass on to the White House staff, simply because he already knows how to cook their meals, and will surely be a welcomed addition to the staff already working in the White House kitchen. Through a spokeswoman for Michelle Obama (Katie McCormick Lelyveld), they stated that Kass "knows what they like, and he happens to have a particular interest in healthy food and local food."

Currently the White House executive chef is Cristeta Comerford, who was appointed to the position by the Bushes in 2005, and kept on staff when the Obama's moved into the White House. Kass is also a Chicago native, who graduated from the University of Chicago before receiving formal training at a restaurant in Europe. Known for cooking healthy foods, Kass founded a private chef service in Chicago where he offered not only meals to adults, but to children and private parties as well. With many dishes that have vegetables as a focal point, he has become well known for being a health-conscious chef.

Bringing someone like Sam Kass into the White House is a great step by the Obama's. Not only do they have someone in house that they know and trust, but they have someone who sets a great example at being extremely health conscious. With the country struggling so much recently with reports of obesity getting out of control, it is quite notable when the White House hires on someone that specializes in healthy foods. The thought of "trickle-down" ideas seems to be a good side-effect of this hiring, and it certainly should do wonders for Sam Kass and his career from this point on.

Great choice for healthy meals in the White House. Am sure the heat chef is terrific and the two of them will prepare wonderful meals for the Obamas and their guests, foreign leaders, etc. Hopefully, we can all benefit from the example of eating healthy.
