Sam Montgomery Signed by LSU on National Signing Day 2009

LSU coach Les Miles pulled another coup with the signing of four-star defensive end prospect Sam Montgomery of South Carolina today. LSU has the top-rated national signing day (as of 3:30pm Eastern Time) 2009 class in college football as rated by Rivals.com, and Sam Montgomery just made the class that much better for LSU. Coach Miles was able to overcome a late January visit to Tennessee by Sam Montgomery to sign the highly touted prospect who had also been considering the North Carolina Tarheels.

Sam Montgomery High School Performance

Sam Montgomery had great junior and senior years in High School. In his senior year, Sam Montgomery had 85 tackles and 11 sacks and was selected to the South Carolina AP All State First Team, the Shrine Bowl, and the Under Armour All-American Game. In his junior season, Sam Montgomery had 65 tackles and 20 sacks on the season. Montgomery brings a decent sized frame at 6-4, 230 lbs to the LSU defense with a 4.44 / 40 time as well as a decent academic record with a 3.0 GPA and 1100 SAT score entering the second semester of his senior year.

LSU National Signing Day 2009 - Defense Highlights

Although Sam Montgomery has gotten a lot of press for his signing with the LSU Tigers, there are a number of other blue chip defensive prospects in this year's signing class for Coach Les Miles. Along with Montgomery are five star defensive prospects: DB Craig Loston and DT Chris Davenport. Fellow four star prospects joining Sam Montgomery are: LB Kevin Minter, DT Akiem Hicks, DE Michael Brockers, LB Barkevious Mingo, DT Josh Downs, and Athlete Drayton Calhoun. With the crop of talent that Coach Miles has signed this year, Sam Montgomery and his counterparts should have the Tigers back in contention for the SEC and BCS national title games again in the near future.
