Sam Moon's Shopping Madness

Ruth Eshbaugh
With a reference to the comic Gallagher my little sister often speaks of the shopping lobe women have that just plain makes us want to shop. The urge to acquire goes off, and we go to the local mall.

Have I got the place for my little sis and anyone else of the feminine persuasion who visits my home in North Texas. Until the last few years it was a secret shopping place known only by those of us who engage in resale or participated in the arts and craft show circuit. The place of shopping delight now in two locations is affectionately known to us who love to accessorize as Sam Moon's.

The original Harry Hines location moved to the intersection of Interstate 35 and LBJ. Some time afterward they opened a store outside the Frisco Mall. Parking can be a problem at the Harry Hines location, fair warning, but worth the effort. Prepare yourself for madness and good deals on my personal favorite; silver jewelry, a wall full of it. Then there are hair bows, all sorts of other ways to decorate your head, scarves, wallets, purses and belts.

When the new stores opened they expanded with a Luggage & Gifts store next door. The Harry Hines location added Home Décor.

The best way to approach this experience is with at least one friend, preferable female. A divide and conquer strategy works best. There is just too much to see and you might miss something. Then you have to decide what to get and what to pass up. This can be agonizing and best done with a sympathetic but truthful friend.

Plan to spend at least an hour. Two hours is a more accurate estimate. Be prepared for crowds and lines. Buying in volume gets you the best results so think of everyone on your gift list that you could possible want to buy for and do so. Make a list. Wear comfortable shoes and if you like to shop at all, you will have a blast.

My favorite part of the experience is the shear diversity of all the merchandise. I really enjoy seeing what everyone else finds and just has to have.
