I have a few words to say about this Samantha Who?: funny, smart, and delightful!
I have a few words to say about Christina Applegate as Samantha Who?: great, at her best, witty.
I think the show Samantha Who? will go far. Yes, the series just premiered last night on ABC, but I can already tell it's a winner.
Why?
1. Laughter content. I have to admit, I don't laugh very often. When you see it, you've gotta remember it because it's so rare. The only other show that has made me laugh in the past six months, I would say, is The Office.
2. Christina Applegate's performance. Christina Applegate, as Samantha, did a spectacular job. This is her best show yet! I liked Married With Children, where Christina Applegate played a dumb-blonde teenager, but this didn't really do much for her other than to gain her great popularity. Then, there was Jesse, where she played a divorced Mother. The show was cute, but didn't last too long and wasn't hugely popular. Her acting was fine, but nothing shocking. With Samantha Who?, however, I think Christina will shine, and we will see all she has to offer. This will be her breakout role.
Christina Applegate in the first episode just was crazy! You didn't know what to expect next. It was freshly exciting to watch her in action.
3. Great writing. There were some really funny scenes in the first episode. My favorite had to be when she got thrown out of Alcoholics Anonymous because they thought she came in totally drunk (although she had had just one drink and actually had just lost her mind!)
These three things together, the laughter content, the great writing, and Christina Applegate are going to really give us a new hot comedy series for this Fall.
I think that Samantha Who? is going to even give The Office a run for its money. The show has the makes of being the best new comedy sitcom this season, and even the best comedy. I can't imagine anything funnier. I predict it to win some awards.
Costars
As for her costars, they'll fit the part well. I was hoping for another show with Barry Watson from Seventh Heaven. His former series, What About Bryan? didn't go over too well and didn't last. It kind of swept under the rug like Christina Applegate's Jesse. Finally Barry Watson will have a new show to shine on. I hope that he and Samantha get back together, as I hope she can turn herself good from her previously evil ways.
Jennifer Esposito will grace her part of the devilish friend committed to keeping Samantha in her previous nasty ways. It will be quite a challenge for Samantha.
But, I think Melissa McCarthy will be the good fairy, or the angel on her shoulder, fighting with Jennifer's character Andrea to keep her on the good side of things.
Jean Smart's performance as Christina's mother, Regina, will add to the excitement. She is just perfect for this role, with her sarcastic remarks, and she even looks like she could be Christina's real mother.
All of these factors will come together to make Samantha Who? one great show on ABC this Fall. It's one I don't advise you to miss!
