A former Cubs employee named Rebecca Polihronis has stated that Sosa isn't "trying to be Michael Jackson", but is undergoing a special cleansing process. The explanation for Sosa's new skin look is that he is getting a skin "rejuvenation process". The procedure involves a temporary lightening of the pigment in the skin. It is more often used by females than males, but Sosa is clearly being affected by the treatments. His normal skin color will return in some time. Some friends of the baseball star have also claimed that the lighting in the particular picture was bright, making his skin appear different. Sammy Sosa has not offered any comments up on the matter as of yet.
The former Chicago Cubs star is well known for his other headline news stories. He was part of the rejuvenation process of Major League Baseball at one point following its tougher times. Sosa battled it out in a heated homerun race with fellow superstar Mark McGwire of the St. Louis Cardinals. McGwire won the race 70-66. Although Sammy finished second in the stats, he had captured the hearts of many fans in the process. Sosa also became the first ever major leaguer to hit 65 home runs in a season. He played a large part of his career as a member of the Cubs, before finishing out with his final seasons in Baltimore and Texas.
During this past summer, the New York Times reported Sosa was one of the 103 players in baseball to have tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs, back in 2003. Sosa had been involved in a Congressional hearing back in 2005 which also involved Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco and Rafael Palmeiro. At that time, Sosa's attorney testified that Sosa had never used performance-enhancing drugs, making for quite a bit of controversy when the news hit this past June. Let it be known that the Sammy Sosa bleached skin pictures are due to a normal, legal procedure meant to enhance the skin rather than any of Sosa's performances.
