Sammy Sosa Face Change: It's Human Nature to Take Note

Roy A. Barnes
The Sammy Sosa face change is quite noticeable from the last time I saw him, as his facial skin is much lighter via this picture in a November 12, 2009 Chicago Tribune article. My first reaction to the Sammy Sosa face change was that he is doing a "Michael Jackson". But the Sammy Sosa face change is due to the retired baseball star using a skin cream which is supposed to soften his skin yet which he's considering endorsing in the future. You can't blame people for taking notice of this, because the face and head are usually the first things human beings take note of when seeing and judging someone.

Sammy Sosa Face Change: My Own Recent Experiences With Appearing Different In The Face and Head Areas to People

I think it's a fact of life that when you appear different, especially in the facial and head areas, you can expect stares. My philosophy on that is this, "Let them look, as long as they don't try to touch me." Yesterday afternoon after having my eyes dilated by the eye doctor, I got some of those cheap eyeshades from the office staff to help me deal with the light outside better. I put them on over my eyeglasses and began running home. I also wore a hood over my head. Yes, I noticed some stares from drivers and people on the street, including some teenagers. One them called out that I looked like some kind of space alien character.

Because I wear a bright orange stocking cap in colder weather, I got lots of stares when I visited Germany in October. I asked my German escort why this was happening and she told me that people in Germany wear darker colors for the most part, so my bright orange cap stood out; and thus, I was on the receiving end of stares. So it's not surprising the fuss that's being made over the Sammy Sosa face change because for years, we've had this image of him, and now that image is different because of his lighter facial skin. Plus, when one appears lighter, it's not surprising that Michael Jackson's name pops into mind, the man who made getting lighter very noteworthy. Though ironically, he sung a song called Human Nature, too.

I saw the pics on this blog ralphie-boy.blogspot.com It's totally weird to do something like that to your face. Like someone else said, I was thinking Michael Jackson face all the way.

It is human nature to notice when people change. It is polite to try noto stare.

"My first reaction to the Sammy Sosa face change was that he is doing a "Michael Jackson"."~~
What is that supposed to mean? MJ had Vitiligo and opted to go whiter when the disease progressed, as many who've had the means to do so.
You're worried about glasses and a stocking cap getting stares? Try looking like a giraffe. Disappointing that people still think of MJ as "going white" instead of a victim of Vitiligo, which has no cure and leaves few choices.

Perhaps he looks different because he stopped taking steroids. That will make a dramatic change quickly.
