Sammy Sosa Skin: A Big Controversy

Sammy Sosa's Lighter Skin is Creating a Michael Jackson-Like Stir

Sammy Sosa's skin is the center of a debate. His skin today is lighter than it was a few years ago. Is his skin lighter because of a medical condition, or did he undergo a cosmetic procedure in order to lighten his skin?

The Sammy Sosa skin debate doesn't sound that unfamiliar. For years, Michael Jackson was the center of debate over how his skin lightened. Many people thought Michael Jackson was trying to be "whiter" while others argued that Michael had a disease.

There's an argument that Michael Jackson couldn't possibly have the disease called vitiligo because it causes splotchy skin. However, it is quite possible that Michael Jackson sought out the help of dermatologists to even out his skin. According to CNN, those with the disease contend that Michael Jackson's use of umbrellas, gloves, and lipstick are all in line with the actions of someone with vitiligo.

This brings us to Sammy Sosa. He was a popular baseball player, but his physical appearance isn't the same as the physical appearance of an entertainer that is put on stage in front of millions. Sammy Sosa wants to portray the image of a great baseball player. After a list released in 2009 indicated that he was among those that tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs, protecting his reputation should be very important. What could he possibly gain from lightening his skin for vanity reasons?

The Inquistr has a theory that Sammy Sosa's skin is lighter because of vanity reasons. Their reasoning behind this claim is because the former MLB baseball player is also sporting "cat-like green" contacts. Of course, Mr Sousa has not addressed his visibly lighter skin - either because it's not really our business or he just hasn't got around to it yet.

Vitiligo is a very difficult disease for people to deal with. The splotches it causes can lead to embarrassing coloration of the skin that people just don't understand. It is quite possible that Sammy Sosa has this disease and had all of his skin visibly lightened using strong drugs in order to cover up the splotches it causes. It's also quite possible that Sammy Sosa had his skin lightened because he just wanted to look a little lighter. All in all, his motive for changing his skin color is not our business.

Sammy Sousa is eligible for induction in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2013. Hopefully he will be inducted.
