Day 1 - Summer/Sun
Circle Time
Talk about:
- What we wear in the summer
- The sun
- Sun protection
Show and tell (parent newsletter asks that parents to allow children to bring one summer/beach item.)
Five-day Summer Journal pg. 1 - Draw yourself wearing your favorite summer outfit.
Main Activity - Sun Painting Materials: Yellow, orange, red and/or white paint. Paintbrushes and/or other painting tools. Large, white, construction paper circles. What to do: Ask children to make a sun using the materials.
Morning Table Activity - Bear clothes puzzles

Day 2 - Beach
Circle TimeTalk about:
- What we wear at the beach
- What we do at the beach
- Things we find at the beach
Show and tell (If someone brought something to show)
Journal pg. 2 - "Draw yourself playing at the beach."
Main activity - Paper Plate Ocean Treasures Holder (Instructions will be provided).
Morning Table Activity - Sand castles
Day 3 - Ocean
Circle Time
Talk about:
- The ocean
- Ocean animals
- Beach animals
Journal pg. 3 - "Draw a picture of animals in the ocean."
Main Activity - Hunt for Shells: Materials: Box of sand. At least 4 seashells for each child. Observing tools (magnifying glasses, etc.) What to do: Take one child at a time. Before taking each child, add a few seashells to sandbox. Ask child to find and examine seashells, and then keep their findings in yesterday's Ocean Treasures Holder.
Morning Table activities:
- Circle fish (for bulletin board)
- Lobster paper craft (for bulletin board)
- Toddler triangle fish (for bulletin board)
Day 4 - Going to the Beach
Circle Time
- Talk about:
- Summer activities
- Activities you can't do in the summer
Journal pg. 4 - "Draw yourself doing a favorite summer activity."
Main activity - Play "beach" outside (pools, sprinkler, sandbox, etc.)
Morning Table Activity - Summer Memory Game
Toddler Activity - beach in a bag (sandwich bag with sand, blue gel, and small ocean animal toys)
Day 5 - Picnic
Circle Time
Talk about:
- Things we eat
- Things we do
- People we go with
Show and tell
Journal - "Draw yourself having a picnic with friends and family"
Main Activity - Snack Picnic (take snack outside)
Morning Table Activity - Nutrition Memory Game
Bulletin Board - Beach
Add children's beach and ocean art projects to the bulletin board.
Learning Centers
Dramatic Play Learning Center:
Beach towels, beach ball, sunglasses, sunhats, sand toys, etc.
Summer Reading Learning Center:
Books about summer, beach, ocean, etc.
Small blow-up pool with soft, blue bedding for kids to sit in while they read about summer stuff.
