Sample Some Fine Nighlife and Bars in Portsmouth
Neighborhood: Seacoast
Portsmouth, NH 03801
If you live in the Seacoast you know that the nightlife can be dreary and repetitive after a while. Boston's available, but its an hour away and can be really pricey. You could go to Portland but its even further away and driving to and from there can be a real pain. However, there are a number of great places to go in the bustling city of Portsmouth. Portsmouth offers the highest per capita rate for places to eat of anywhere in the country. It has plenty of bars and restaurants with a number of different types and themes available. So check it out for some great dinking and eating.

The first place you should check out is Poco's Bow Street Cantina located right in the heart of downtown and on the water. In the summer you can sit out on their open-air deck and sample some of their great Mexican fare, as well as their famous margaritas. They have over 20 different types to choose from, so make sure your bring your appetite for tequila. When the sun goes down, their open-air bar is one of the hottest places to be and they have a fully stocked liquor selection as well as a number of great local and imported beers on tap. Come here for some great drinks as well as to hang with the hip crowd. Poco's is located at 37 Bow St. and can be reached at 603-431-5967.

If you are looking for a little more upscale place to have some drinks and sample of the area's finest local music, then head to the Red Door. The Red Door has some of the best liquor available anywhere, and has a wonderful selection of martinis from their martini menu. Try the espresso martini; it'll knock your socks off. The martinis can be a bit pricey, but on nights that they have live music you can get $2 Pabst Blue Ribbon and chose from a great selection of cheap wine. The atmosphere is really cool as they have nice leather couches and avant-garde lighting. Check them out at 107 State St. or contact them at 603-373-6872 or ww.reddoorportsmouth.com.

Most bars close at 12:45 am, but the Spring Hill Tavern is for anyone interested in grabbing a few more beers before they shut down around 1:15. Most of the after hours crowd heads here, and they usually have someone on the open mic until they close. They have great deals on beer and you almost always run into someone you know or meet someone cool before they close for the night. Be sure to head there right after the other bars close as it can get a little crowded with the late night liquor rush. Spring Hill Tavern can be found right next to Poco's at 15 Bow St. and on the web at www.dolphinstriker.com. Give them a call at 60-431-5222.

If you a looking for a great place to get some drinks and meet some interesting people, head to Portsmouth for a night out. There are plenty of places to go, and the three listed here are just the tip of the iceberg.
