To start with, the Samsung A437 is very compact. The only drawback to this, is that it can be a little hard to open at times because it is so thin, it can be hard to grasp. There is no protruding antennae on it like with prior Samsung models, which is very good. I like the touch of the keys, they are flat and on the large side and easy to press. I have had other cell phones, namely a Nokia, that had rounded keys that were difficult to press, so this is a good feature.
The screen is fairly large, but not really large enough to browse the internet, although this model is capable of it. The Samsung A437 is also capable of being used around the world. It utilizes quad-band technology so it functions on foreign networks. We used it in the United Kingdom last year shortly after getting it, and we had no problem at all using it. It connected to the network there just fine. With the exchange rate, it turned out it was cheaper to use our mobile phone to make local calls there than to use a pay-phone, despite the fact that it was International Roaming!
The options that the Samsung A437 has on it are fantastic as well. The calendar is very versatile, and there are multiple options on how to view the calendar, by month, week or day. You can schedule appointments and tasks, which are color coded, and set them to have an alarm go off to remind you. I find that sometimes however, that the alarm either doesn't go off, or that perhaps it's just not loud enough so I don't hear it. The regular alarm works like a charm. I actually use the phone as my alarm clock, and I have no problem with the regular alarm though.
The phone has a very nice camera on it, very good for a phone and a huge step forward from the old Samsung that I had. It takes up to 600 by 800 resolution pictures, and while it's obviously not as good as a digital camera, it's one of the best cell phone cameras that I've used. One small drawback to the Samsung A437 is that if the picture is too big, I cannot seem to send it to someone else. I'm not sure whether this is a problem with the phone or with my network though.
The Samsung A437 comes with some game demos on it, but no fully functional games, that you have to pay for. Same thing with the ring tones. They've gotten really cheap with this lately and only give you a few of the worst ones so that you're compelled to buy some that don't grate on your nerves.
Another improvement from my old Samsung is that the charging port on the phone has a cover on it that is removable yet still remains attached to the phone. It seems to be resistant to snapping off as it hasn't done so yet, despite the fact that I have accidentally forgot to close it after putting it into my carrying case. It keeps the debris and dirt out and so that's definitely a positive.
One quirk about the Samsung A437 is that once it gets to one bar, it goes dead quickly. It stays on two or three bars for a long time. This was opposite of my old Samsung which tended to reach one bar very quickly but last for a long time before needing to be charged. One slight drawback is once it starts beeping at you to be charged you only have maybe ten to fifteen minutes of talk time left before it goes completely dead. It's not quite enough of a warning if you're not aware of this, so you have to make sure you charge it before you need it.
The Samsung A437 is also bluetooth compatible but I have not tried this feature out so I can't say how good it works or not.
Overall the Samsung A437 is a really good phone and I like it. It seems to be durable and does not seem to be easily broken, I have dropped it a couple of times and it still works just fine. I would definitely get another one without hesitating.
