Samsung Intercept
The Samsung Intercept features the newest 2.1 Android OS, touch screen, full slide out QWERTY keyboard and many high-end features expected on smartphones. The phone homes screen is easy to navigate using the responsive touch-screen or the built in optical joystick. The intercept features an array of social networking apps as well as entertainment options from the comprehensive Android apps store. Overall, this phone is a very affordable entry-level smartphone that does not skimp on cool features.
Notable Features
• Full QWERTY Keyboard- Unlike other touch screen phones at this price range, the Intercept features a full QWERTY keyboard. The physical keyboard is great for continuous typing, internet surfing and sending long and short emails.
• Touch Screen- Touch screen phones are quickly becoming popular among younger users as it makes navigating easier. The touch screen also allows for full potential of the large 3" screen.
• Social Networking- Staying in touch with all of your contacts via social networking tools has become a big selling point for smartphones. The social networking apps preloaded and available on the Android apps store are great for accessing your favorite accounts on Facebook, MySpace and many more.
• Easy to use Messaging- Messaging on this phone is displayed chat-style, which is popular on BlackBerry devices and on many other high-end smartphones.
• Design- This Intercept looks like an expensive smartphone. It is slim, has great look with the faux chrome finish and has easy to use physical buttons.
• Visual Voicemail- The invention of visual voicemail is among our top 10 achievements for mobile phones. The feature allows users to access their voicemail via an application, which allows for selective message listening and no calling to your voicemail account.
Disadvantages
• Phone Runs Hot- Using the full potential of this phone generates a lot of heat. Unfortunately, this problem is associated with many budget smartphones with less than phenomenal power management applications.
• Camera Flash- There is none.
• Slow Processor- The phone can be slow when using high-powered applications such as the mobile browser. This disadvantage is a big con if you plan to use the internet-based features heavily.
Highlighted Tech-Specs
• Weight- 4.9 ounces
• Screen Size- 3 inches
• Battery Life- 5.5 hours of talk time and 350 hours in standby
• Documents- Document file viewer
• Expandable Memory- microSD card (32MB included but expandable)
Overall Value
The Intercept is an excellent smartphone for the price, but does have some noticeable downsides. If you want an entry level smartphone with some cool features than the Intercept is a great choice, but if you are looking for a more powerful phone, we recommend checking out other Android devices such as the DROID X, or EVO.
