Samsung Launches Eye-catching Laser Printers

Samsung has recently announced the US launch of its new ultra-compact monochrome laser printer, the ML-1630 and the multifunction laser printer, the SCX-4500. Samsung also stated in the press release that both printers will be exclusively available at Apple Retail Stores or online at Apple's website. The design of Samsung's new printers deviates from traditional monochrome laser printers and the size is particularly much smaller.

Jang-jae Lee, Senior Vice President of the Digital Printing Division of Samsung Electronics says that the printer is often considered as an add-on device but Samsung has taken the printer to an entirely new level of artistic refinement.

The ML-1630 and the SCX-4500 both have a glossy and black exterior with a very simple design. Jun Won Bae, Senior Designer, at Digital Printing Division of Samsung Electronics said that they wanted to create a printer with a simple exterior design that would balance out the inner complexities of the device. "Samsung is consistently looking for opportunities to enrich and diversify the global printer market," says Jang-jae Lee. Lee further adds that Samsung is thrilled to team up with Apple for the U.S. release of Samsung's printers. He described the ML-1630 and the SCX-4500 and said that the devices include button-less touch-sensor panels to reduce the user interface. Samsung also stated that they added audible alerts and blue LED indicators so that the printers would be as user-friendly as possible.

Specifications for the multifunction SCX-4500 laser printer as posted on Samsung's website include: print, copy and scan functions, print and copy speeds of up to 16 ppm in A4 or 17 ppm in Letter, 600 x 600 dpi resolution, zoom rate of 50% to 199%, color flatbed scanner with an optical resolution of 600 x 2,400 dpi, can handle A4, A5, A6, Letter, Executive, ISO B5, and JIS B5 paper sizes, 8 MB of internal memory, and Hi-speed USB 2.0 connectivity.

Specifications of the Samsung ML-1630 monochrome laser printer are also available at Samsung's website and includes: Print speeds of 16 ppm using A4 size or 17 ppm using Letter size paper, 1,200 x 600 dpi effective output, has output capacity of 30 sheets, can handle A4, A5, A6, Letter, Executive, ISO B5, and JIS B5 paper sizes, Samsung 150 Mhz processor, 8 MB of internal memory, Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity, and has less than 45 dBA printing noise level. The Samsung ML-1630 weighs 14.10 lbs while the SCX-4500 weighs 18.9 lbs.

The SCX-4500 retails for $299 while the ML-1630 has a price tag of $199. According to Samsung, both printers will be exclusively available in Apple stores until both printers are widely released in January 2008.
