Shopping online has become really popular over the last few years. It spares time and effort of going out and searching all kind of stores for the right product. These days, you just enter a search term and you've bought your desired product usually within ten minutes. The only thing you have to wait for now is the doorbell to ring with your package. With the software Application Store, that will be opened by Samsung on 14 September, even that waiting is history. In the store you will be able to find free and paid applications of all kinds. You won't even have to be at home to do some shopping, because it's a mobile download store. This means that you can easily shop at this store with the latest Samsung phones. The i8910 HD and the Omnia are the first phones that will offer the function of using this download store. Later on models like the Omnia II and the Omnia Qwerty will follow.

When the store opens it will offer 300 different applications, but before the end of this year, that number should have been increased to over 2000. This is what Samsung announced. Everybody can download free applications, but for certain paid applications, users will have to create an account. The pay option that Samsung already announced is using a credit card. In some countries it will also be possible to pay by making a simple call to a certain number. The purchase of the application will then be found on your phone bill.

Starting from 14 September, users of the Samsung Omnia can download from the application store. Later on, the support for the Omnia II and the Omnia Qwerty will follow, these two phones have a much higher screen resolution and this improves the use of the App store. For users of the i8910 HD, a Symbian phone, there will be a software upgrade available, which installs the download application store automatically. The update can be downloaded over the air, by choosing the option 'Check for updates' in the settings menu.

Just for the record: Users of Samsung smart phones can already download different sorts of applications from other places. Users of the i8910 can actually download software from the Nokia Ovi Store, although not all applications work on the i8910 HD. Of course, Samsung doesn't want its users to turn to the competitor. For the Omnias, that all run Windows Mobile, there will be Windows Marketplace released this autumn, the application shop from Windows.
