Samsung Uses OLED, RFID Technology to Increase Identity Protection

Samsung is working on OLED technology that could increase our safety from identity theft. Protecting the consumer from having someone pretend that they are them is something that is growing in importance. Identity thieves are becoming more intelligent and are using technology to steal out information. The only way to fight these criminals is to use technology against their technology. Samsung's advances with OLED technology could drastically change the game.

What Samsung has done is combine OLED technology with contact-less RFID technology. The combination of this technology is strictly for security purposes. It was the combination of these two technologies results in an updated photo card for you. The photo card will be a OLED screen that is wafer-thin. In order to make sure the screen does not easily damage Samsung has also made sure that the screen is flexible as well.

Perhaps the coolest aspect of this technology is that the screen will display a rotating image of your face. The face will come onto the screen only when it is scanned under a sensor. The sensor will ignite the card to operate and display your face. Therefore, if someone has stolen your ID they will be able to see that this is not their face.

For example, let us say that someone stole your ID and changed the picture on the ID. The card will still be able to show your computerized image when scanned. The person holding your card will be caught and your identity will be saved in the process. This could also curtail illegal immigrants from obtaining false identification to obtain jobs that they should not be able to get in the first place. Teenagers who like to create fake identification to purchase alcohol or cigarettes will be curtailed as well.

Samsung is ready to produce this technology. However, they are going to wait to mass produce the technology for a few other reasons. They would like to see if a more cost-efficient way to make the technology will become available. Samsung would also like to see how many companies approach them with interest in using the technology. All we know now is that this is technology that will greatly increase our identification security. It will be interesting to see if any states decide to incorporate the technology with their new photo IDS.
