San Antonio Spurs Obituary

Jacob Horn
I have never been a huge NBA fan. I normally watch a few playoff games and I keep up with who is doing what but I do not follow it like I do college football. So, maybe it is not place to say this but I believe the Spurs are done, at least with this squad. If you look at their roster, especially their bench, it is a roster of aging veterans. Now I know that San Antonio has always had a lot of veterans. I should also mention this, San Antonio is one of my favorite NBA teams. I always thought they did things the right way. They put good solid role players around a few stars and everybody always seemed to get along. I also have a lot of respect for Pop's (I hate nicknames but I am in no mood to determine how it should be spelled).

With all of that being said they seem to have lost something this year. They look slightly different. Duncan is still putting up solid numbers and Parker has not changed much but something just seems different. If I am not correct, Manu has recently had an ankle injury, and accord to I believe one of my recent TSN magazines somebody said he would never be the same player again. Couple all of that with the rise of Memphis and Oklahoma City along with a slew of other teams and the Spurs may not even make the playoffs this year. With Carmelo in Denver and Kobe in LA and Cuban in Dallas, the Spurs will have a hard time hanging with those three, nevermind the 50 other teams in the western conference who are vying for playoff spots. I really hate to say it, but I think the Spurs are done as an NBA powerhouse - with this crew.
