It's time to gear up for summer camp and the San Diego area has an abundance of great diverse 2007 Summer Camp programs for your kids! You can choose either a day camp or a week long resident camp. Here is a directory of some of the fun, exciting summer camps offered in San Diego County:

Angel Acres Equestrian Camp in the Lakeside area of San Diego is a day camp for boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14. Your youngsters will learn about life on a ranch, get riding instruction, and learn how to feed and safely handle a horse, as well as participate in games, and arts and crafts classes. A snack, lunch and country dance lessons are also included.

Eight summer sessions run Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning June 18th. The cost for each summer session is $475. There is a discount for siblings and returning campers get a $25 discount. A $100 discount is offered for a repeat week of summer camp.

Angel Acres is a ten acre ranch located in Lakeside, California, which is 15 miles east of San Diego and easily reached north of Interstate 8 off State Highway 67 and Willow Road. The facility has an equestrian center with two riding arenas and offers boarding for up to 40 horses. Angel Acres also has a critter viewing barnyard with lamas, pot belly pig, goats, and much, much more

The San Diego Humane Society offers a Summer Adventure Camp for animal lovers, ages 5-13, to interact with and learn about animals through games and crafts.

There are six, one week sessions for the Summer Animal Adventure Camp July 9 through August 17, 2007. The sessions run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with limited extended care available for an extra fee. The cost for a one week session is $190. A downloadable application is available on the San Diego Humane Society website.

The San Diego Humane Society is located near the west end of the Mission Valley area of San Diego, a short distance from Mission Bay Park and the beach, and the Old Town district of the city. The San Diego Humane Society shelters and facilitates the adoption of animals, and rescues animals in emergency situations among other things.

Aqua-Adventures Beach and Surf Camp is run by We Are Coaches, a California non-profit. Locations for this unique summer camp include San Diego County beaches in La Jolla, Del Mar, Encinitas, Carlsbad and Oceanside.

Boys and girls ages 12-15 enjoy surf lessons, boogie-boarding, sand-castle design, kayaking and snorkeling. One week sessions run from June 10-September 10 and cost $200-$340 per session. Half-day, 2/3 day, and full-day programs are offered.

Summer Learning Adventure Camps at Birch Aquarium begin the week of June 25 and run through September 2, 2007. The marine science programs for youngsters, ages 4-15, are designed to inspire understanding and stewardship of the ocean and its inhabitants. Day camps and week long camps are offered that feature hands-on learning, animal encounters, field outings, and arts & science activities.

The price ranges from $30-$330, depending on the duration and activities involved.

The Birch Aquarium overlooks La Jolla Shores beach and Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Visitors from around the world come to see the incredible marine life exhibits at the Birch Aquarium. The Birch Aquarium is affiliated with Scripps Institution of Oceanography which is one of the oldest, largest, and most important centers for marine science research in the world. Scripps Institution of Oceanography is part of the University of California San Diego.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego

The summer day camp program at various locations features one field trip per week, offers arts and crafts, technology center, sports, contests and games, theme weeks, and a free lunch and afternoon snack for participants at some locations.

The membership Fee is $20 per year for San Diego sites and $60 per year for all other locations. The summer day camp fee for Baker, Clairemont, Ron Roberts, Mitchell, Ramona, Sulpizio & 4S Ranch locations is $80 per week. The fee for summer day camp in Encanto and Oakes is $60 per week. The cost of the Adventure Club for middle school participants is $90 per week and includes 3 or 4 field trips each week. The Adventure Club is only offered at the Mitchell, Baker, Sulpizio & 4S Ranch locations.

There is also a $10 registration fee that includes a t-shirt.

Mataguay Boy Scout Resident Camp

Boy Scouts will have a week of fun at the Mataguay Scout Ranch located in the oak and pine forests in the mountains northeast of San Diego. The weekly sessions run from July 8-to-July 29, 2007. The fee is $265 per Scout. An application is available online at the San Diego - Imperial Council Boy Scout website.

Mataguay Scout Ranch facilities include lodges and cabins, campsites with latrines, running water, and campfire rings, as well as numerous hiking trails. Activities include archery, a swimming pool, and boating at the lake. FiestaIsland Boy Scout Resident Camp

Boy Scouts can spend a week camping on the beach at Camp Fiesta Island located on San Diego's Mission Bay. They will receive expert instruction in a wide range of aquatic merit badges which include swimming, boating, kayaking, and lifesaving.

Weekly sessions run from June 24 to August 5, 2007. The cost is $310 per Scout.

Camp Jaycee offers traditional camps, sports camps, and theatre camps for girls and boys ages 18 months and up. Traditional camps offer a wide range of activities which include swimming, science, crafts, drama, and music. SummerQuest is just one of several camps where teenagers can explore fun, exciting activities such as white water rafting, surfing, rock climbing, and camping. There is also a Spanish or Chinese Language Immersion Camp for toddlers.

One week sessions at Camp Jaycee begin on June 18, 2007 at a cost of $195 and up depending on the activity and age group. Other camps offered at Camp Jaycee begin on June 25, 2007 with sessions that run for two or more weeks. Fees for the multi-week sessions begin at around $500.

Regular Camp Jaycee hours are Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. However, there is a half-day camp available, and some feature overnights and late nights. Extended care hours are available for most camps for an extra fee.

Camp Stevens is nestled in the San Diego County Mountains not far from the historic town of Julian. It is owned and operated by the Episcopal dioceses of Los Angeles and San Diego and is designed to promote personal growth within a Christian community.

Activities include arts and crafts, overnights and outdoor cooking, hiking, environmental awareness and organic gardening, archery, swimming, folk dancing, and ropes/challenge courses, along with special-interest sessions such as choir camp, backpacking in High Sierra country, and a whitewater rafting trip on Kern River.

The main day camp site is Brengle Terrace Recreation Center located at 1200 Bale Terrace Drive in Vista. But some specialty camps are located at other sites around the city. Weekly day camp sessions run from June 18-August 31, 2007. Fees are $55-to-$185 per week depending on the camp you choose for your child.

More than 14 different camps are offered with activities such as sports, games, arts and crafts, theater, and cooking. Field trips, snacks, lunch, and extended care from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. are additional benefits at no extra cost.

Devil Pups is a physically challenging, ten-day program that aims to give boys and girls ages 14-to-17 a sense of responsibility to community and country by fostering self-confidence and self-discipline. It is not a Marine Corps sponsored program, but Devil Pups Camp is held at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in Oceanside, California.

Activities include conditioning exercises, first aid instruction, leadership classes, organized recreation, camping out and swimming. Educational lectures on drug and alcohol abuse, and the importance of teamwork and setting goals in life are part of the "pups" experience.

The first 10 day session begins July 19, 2007. The cost is free for those accepted into the program. Camp Pendleton is located 38 miles north of downtown San Diego. The base covers more than 125,000 acres of terrain with a 17 ½ mile coastline.

Teenagers 13-18 get eight hours of flight that includes three hours at the controls of a real airplane; a Cessna 172. Fly Camp will also introduce teenagers to the basic elements of flight planning, navigation, aviation weather, our national air traffic control system, and radio communications. A visit to a local Aerospace Museum is included as well.

Fly Camp sessions are scheduled for June 18-21, July 16-20, and August 6-10, 2007. The fee is $895.

Day campers in grades 1-12 will enjoy a program theme with specialized activities. A day camp session consists of five consecutive days for six hours each day. Extended care is available at some locations. Girls in second to twelfth grades will have an overnight experience of 4-13 days and participate in a variety of activities that include swimming, hiking, crafts, and campfires, and a challenge course. Other activities include horseback riding, rock climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, drama, dance, art, photography, outdoor cooking and more.

Resident camp is held at Camp Winacka or Whispering Oaks in the Cuyamaca Mountains of San Diego County near Julian. Whispering Oaks offers modern cabins and bathrooms. Camp Winacka is a more rustic experience.

Bus transportation to Camp Winacka or Whispering Oaks is available from Balboa Park in San Diego and Kit Carson Park in Escondido.

Treat your promising little chef to a week of learning the art of cooking from an expert. Participants will learn how to prepare two or three dishes each day using basic cooking utensils. The class will end with an 'Iron Chef' inspired cooking competition.

The class runs from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. each day. The fee is $165 per child.

July 23-27 Teens ages 13-17

A panel of chefs from some of the best restaurants in San Diego will guide your teenager on a cooking adventure. Each day, a different chef will share culinary secrets from his or her kitchen with your teen.

The summer cooking camp for teenagers starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. each day. The cost is $195 per person.

San Diego SeaWorld Summer Day Camp

SeaWorld San Diego has a summer day camp for all kids from preschoolers up to 12^th grade. Sessions begin June 2 and run through August 31, 2007. Campers get to go behind the scenes to visit with the marine animals and learn how specialists take care of them.

The fee for a preschooler and one adult to attend the parent-participation day camp is $85 for a three-morning session of songs, crafts and hands-on exploration.

Prices for older children begin at $150 per week for half-day sessions and $270 for full day weekly sessions Monday-Friday. There are discounts for Passport members.

San Diego SeaWorld Summer Resident Camp

Lodging, meals, field trips, and supplies and equipment are included in the fee of $995- $1,045 per person for the San Diego SeaWorld Summer Resident Camp. The fee also includes transportation to and from the San Diego airport or train terminal on arrival and departure days for out-of-towners. San Diego SeaWorld's Summer Resident Camp is for youngsters in grades 4-to-12. One week sessions run from June 2- August 25, 2007.

SeaWorld San Diego's Adventure Camp Center consists of classrooms, eating and outdoor playing areas, as well as two floors of dormitories.

The San Diego Zoo Summer Camp program has wildlife adventures for students entering grades K to 7. The youngsters will visit behind-the-scenes areas of the zoo and meet exotic critters. A full day summer camp program at the San Diego Zoo runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fee is $189 for members and $204 for nonmembers. The extended-day option from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. is $264 for members and $279 for nonmembers

There is also a mornings-only program from 9 a.m. to noon that costs $116 for members and $131 for nonmembers. The fee for an extended-day option for the mornings-only program from 7:30 a.m. to noon is $153.50 for members and $168.50 for nonmembers.

Surf Diva camp in San Diego features six-day sessions for girls ages 12-to-17. Participants will stay in University of California San Diego residence halls; however the camp is not sponsored by UCSD. YMCA Camp Surf is located in Imperial Beach. The 45 acre facility has some of the last undeveloped coastline left in Southern California. Campers will fall asleep each night to the sound of the surf in the background. Ocean sports fill the daytime hours.

The San Diego YMCA offers day camps and half-day summer camps at its Mission Valley and Toby Wells center. There are day camps for children as young as 4 years old all the way up to teenagers.

The YMCA offers traditional day camps as well as 75 specialty day camps that explore such things as ancient Egypt, animals, archery, arts and crafts, boogie boarding, woodworking, cartoons, ceramics, and more

Eleven weekly sessions start June 20 and end the week of August 27, 2007. Fees for members begin at$120 per weekly session. Participants who are not YMCA members pay a little more. The fee includes free extended care beginning at 6:30 a.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m. for full day campers if needed. Extended care for half-day campers is available from 6:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. at no extra charge.
