Are you someone that has always enjoyed performing, specifically dancing? Have you ever dreamed of dancing in from of thousands of screaming fans? Well, if you are serious about dancing for a career, and are ready to take it to the next step and make that commitment, then trying out to be a San Diego Cheerleader is for you. Unfortunately, the tryouts have already taken place this year, and the 2008-2009 San Diego Cheerleader Squad has been chosen. But, I will provide you with information that will be helpful to anyone looking to tryout and audition to be a San Diego Cheerleader in the future!

Date and Location of the Tryouts

First let me say that each year the location of the tryouts may change, but the dates and times will be relatively similar to the dates and times that were chosen this year. The preliminary auditions for the San Diego Chargers Cheerleaders tryouts were located at the University of San Diego and held n the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The dates for these preliminary auditions were April 13th through April 17th. Check-in began at 9:00 am each day, with the auditions beginning at 10:00 am. The pre-audition workshops for the San Diego Chargers Cheerleaders tryouts, also known as the Charger Girls, were held on March 16, 2008; this workshop lasted approximately three-hours and provided help to the women who were going to tryout for the squad. Anyone interested in attending the auditions must register for the event, you could pre-register and pay a $20 fee, or the women had the option of walking up to the event the day of and paying a $25 dollar fee. Along with the fee, a non-returnable photo of yourself must be submitted; the photos are not for judging, but rather for identifications purposes.

Requirements

There is an age requirement to tryout for the San Diego Chargers Cheerleaders, and that age is 18 by the time of the preliminary audition. Anyone over the age of 18 can tryout, there is no maximum age limit. Currently, there are not any height or weight requirements.

Clothing

There are some particular pieces of clothing that are mandatory when it comes to the San Diego Chargers Cheerleader tryouts, all individuals should have flesh-colored tights and a one or two-piece leotard. Individuals must also have some form of dance or athletic shoes. Other items that are strongly suggested are make-up, hair accessories, and hair styling items.

Finalists

There are 28 positions on the San Diego Chargers Cheerleaders Squad, and all 28 positions are open. The individuals who were on the squad during the prior year must re-audition each year. After the preliminary auditions come to a close, anywhere from 60 to 65 people are selected as finalists. These finalists must expect to encounter an interview and one last dance audition. After scoring takes place, the results of the audition will be posted on a private website for all finalists to view. Following the postings on the private website, Chargers.com will post the Charger Girls Team so that the public can have a chance to view.

Keep in mind that although this does take a one-year commitment and is very hard work this is not considered a full-time job. This is definitely more of a part-time job; each San Diego Cheerleader is paid $75 per home game. Each San Diego Cheerleader must also be aware that they are required to attend all 10 regular season home games, personal appearances, photo shoots, rehearsals, and mini-camps. Also, there are many other commitments that all team members must attend.

If you feel like you are interested in joining the San Diego Chargers Cheerleaders, you will have an opportunity next year for the 2009-2010 squad, because the auditions/tryouts have already taken place this year for the 2008-2009 squad. Information for the San Diego Chargers Cheerleader Tryouts can also be found on the San Diego Chargers official website.
