Recently, several women have accused Cromartie of owing a total of $25,000 in back child support. The 25 year old cornerback has seven children, with six different women, in five different states. It would be easy to conclude that Cromartie is a bad guy, a reckless guy, how else do you explain 7 kids, with 6 different moms, at the age of 25? Maybe Cromartie is a bad guy, or maybe he was a reckless guy, who can learn from his mistakes, and still provide a good future for himself, and his family, a future that's not defined by the past. Cromartie has a responsibility to his children, a responsibility that includes paying child support.
Will his children be able to attend a college as nice as Florida State, Cromartie's alma mater? Will their father be there to help them? Will Cromartie be around to protect his children as well as he protects himself during the physical game of football? The cornerback has pads and helmets to protect him from the dangers of the NFL, what tools will he equip his children with, before sending them out into the world?
Stats and records on the football field won't mean anything if Cromartie is a nothing to his children. With his name being mentioned in trade talks, Cromartie's NFL future is uncertain. For now, the cornerback is at the mercy of someone else, the Chargers, just as his children are at his mercy.
Antonio Cromartie is a cornerback for the San Diego Chargers, but more then that, he's a father. For the sake of his family, let's hope he can excel at both.
