San Diego Chargers Vs Denver Broncos: Las Vegas Line & Pick Against the Spread

San Diego Charger Look to End Season on High Note Against Denver Broncos

Todd Jacobs
The San Diego Chargers travel to Denver to take on the disappointing Denver Broncos in their final AFC West division game January 2nd. The San Diego Chargers have no NFL Playoff hopes alive entering this game but look for Phillip Rivers to pull out all the stops. The San Diego Chargers have had a frustrating season and since NFL Playoff hopes are extinguished before they take the field in this game they will still play for the big win over their AFC West enemies.

San Diego Chargers Defense vs Denver Broncos Offense

The San Diego Chargers defense coached by Ron Rivera has been underrated all season. They have played well against the run and the pass equally. Up front the San Diego Chargers have put pressure on NFL quarterbacks all season and they have held opposing pass offenses to just 170 yards passing per game.

Run defense is also a strong suit of this San Diego Chargers defense. They are containing opposing running backs to less than 90 yards per game and they are stuffing some of the better running backs in the NFL. They have had their weaknesses this season and their inability to stop the Oakland Raiders has cost them in the long run.

Tim Tebow and the new Denver Broncos offense has been fun to watch but they have been ineffective until last week against the Houston Texans. The Denver Broncos are trying to salvage their season by getting their rookie quarterback some snaps at the end of a season they would like to soon forget.

If the Denver Broncos enter this game with thoughts of running Knowshon Moreno they may have problems. When these two faced off in their last meeting Moreno was held to 58 yards rushing but he did have 62 yards receiving. The San Diego Chargers defense has the edge over the Denver Broncos offense.

San Diego Chargers Offense vs Denver Broncos Defense

Phillip Rivers has performed admirably through this trying season for the San Diego Chargers offense. The lack of a running game has hurt this offense but that is not the only issue. Holdouts by two key players, Vincent Jackson and offensive guard Marcus McNeil. Both players are keys to Rivers success and their absence may have cost the San Diego Chargers a post season berth.

Defensively, the Denver Broncos have played well against the pass, allowing 227 yards. The Denver Broncos are happy to facing the San Diego Chargers weak running game since they are giving up an average of 158 yards per game on the ground. Look for the San Diego Chargers to see if Ryan Mathews and Mike Tolbert can grind out yards on this dismal run defense. The San Diego Chargers offense has the edge over the Denver Broncos defense.
