The young San Francisco 49ers are an aggressive bunch and they love to hit. Sam Bradford leads a St Louis Rams offense that has played well enough to win games and play with many of the best teams in the NFL. Steven Jackson is still the focal point of this offense but the running game is averaging just 107 yards per game on the ground. Sam Bradford has little to work with in the wide receiver department and has done much with very little. Alex Smith is back for the San Francisco 49ers and when he returned he had a great game and then he ran smack into the San Diego Chargers. Alex Smith and the San Francisco 49ers will face a tougher St Louis Rams defense that has improved over the last half of the NFL season. Vernon Davis is now the offensive star on this team with the loss of Frank Gore occurring a few games ago. Davis is the one key that could make Alex Smith productive.
The St Louis Rams defense has played well over the course of the season but they have been ignored by many when this team is discussed. They are holding teams to 106 yards per game on the ground and their pass defense is allowing just 227 yards per game through the air.
James Laurainitis has been the de facto leader on this team since his rookie season. Laurainitis is one of the best linebackers in the NFL and he has made this defense one of the most surprisingly strong defenses in the NFL. The St Louis Rams defense has the edge over the San Francisco 49ers offense.
