This smallish hotel is so unusual you may not want to leave your room. Several of the rooms are painted by local artists emerging in the art world. Each artist is given full liberty in their artistic ventures and encouraged to showcase their talents. Artists include Alayna, Brad Alder, Casey O'Connell and Sam Flores.
The painted rooms run the gamut from girly, pink and fashionable to geographically oriented or ocean themed. The room painted by Sam Flores has a distinctly Japanese feel to it. It features a geisha in a field of flowers. Antoine Merger Calls his room Punkadelic. It features bold strokes of flashy colors and black separating lines.
Not all rooms are painted but come in the average hotel room decor with a King or Queen size bed. All the rooms are smaller than average since this is an Old Victorian style home. Microwaves, complimentary breakfast, refrigerators, hairdryers, irons, wireless Internet, TV with movie channels, telephone, alarm-clock radio, 24-hour concierge services and a laundry service are all made available to all occupants. The Hotel De Arts also has a multilingual staff and safe-deposit boxes are available at the front desk. A stay in any of the rooms is affordable. They run between $80 and $150 per room.
If you do choose one of the non-artsy rooms you are always able to see the artists works in the hallways and lobby but also in the art gallery. The gallery's theme changes periodically. The events are often to sponsor a charity or local nonprofit organization.
As if all the art on the premises isn't enough the San Francisco Playhouse. Here you will experience the best in live theater. Each season features a new play by an inspiring playwright. Its also close to Cellspace where you can partake in community art lessons and view art shows. The Aquarium of the Sea is also in San Francisco right around the corner from the Hotel De Arts.
This is a fun, funky and fashionable place to stay in San Francisco. The hotel itself is a landmark and local attraction and the near by sight seeing spots make the stay even more fun.
