Sand into Glass

April Higney
Sand,
sifted through an hourglass,
in the same light contained in what it is,
when placed in fires burning.

into something that can shatter,
break, or cut,
when once so soft a touch,
where once the feet were placed upon a beach in summer,
barefoot, and carefree,
with the ocean waves bringing in the tide,
and the seagulls calling,
following a ship,
sailing upon the sea,
ironic,
as the waves break,
over the heart,
of what is to be.
