Rising approximately 10,378 feet to the Sandia Peak in the Tram. The Tram runs at 15 miles per hour and takes about 15 minutes to rise to the top of the Sandia Peak Tramway Mountain top. This trip costs $17.50 for adults, $15.00 for seniors over 62 and teen 13 - 20 years old. Children 5 to 12 are $10.00 and under 5 are free. One set back of this Tram ride is that 50 passengers take the Tram up and back making it difficult to see as much of the beauty as one wishes.
Riding the Sandia Peak Tramway to the top of the Sandia Mountains is extremely interesting and gives passengers the chance to view local wildlife such as bear, raccoons, bobcats, many different squirrels and several birds and local flora and fauna.
Once passengers reach the top of the Sandia Mountain on the Tram a nice drink or snack at the High Finance Restaurant is a great way to sit for a quiet enjoyable visit at the top. Keep in mind that being 10,378 feet makes alcohol take affect with less than usual so it is best to keep the alcoholic drinks to a minimum. However, they do serve soda, tea and coffee along with complete meals or just appetizers.
Decks along the edge of the mountaintop give visitors a great view of the surrounding area and is also a fantastic photo opportunity area. There are several trails for hiking and some visitors decide to take the Tram up and hike down. It is a very dangerous hike down after dark so visitors must be off the trails by dark. It is so dangerous that they have actually built a cabin for those who feel they cannot make it to the bottom before dark and this cabin is open for hikers, skiers and any others who find themselves not able to get down in time.
The eastern side of the Sandia Peak Tramway sits a great winter ski area with chair lifts and all the great necessities for skiers to enjoy fun in the winter months. The chairlift does give rides to visitors during the summer months along. Also bikers enjoy the 25 miles of scenic adventurous mountain trails.
The Sandia Mountains and Sandia Peak Tramway are great adventures for any traveler when on vacation in New Mexico. For more information visit www.sandiapeak.com

PV love. In Beaumont, TX. Mom and I are not feeling well at all.
I enjoyed the views from this train ride as well! Well written.
my mom got to ride this when we went to albuquergue, I opted for a music festival instead. I would love to get back there and go for a ride on the tram :)
Thanks for not giving up on me ...although I am not commenting these days because of my hectic work schedule. Returning the PV love :)
Sounds like an awesome ride! Not sure if I'd have enough guts, though. I remember by ski lift days, and it wasn't pretty!
We just got back from New Mexico and we visit the Tramway.. it was the most beautiful sight that we have ever seen, the view is breath taking..we will fell in love with New Mexico, we plan to visit again, in the October
What a fun adventure this would be! It's definitely not for people who fear heights though. :-)
This seems really cool we will be driving through Albuquerquue on our way home from our vacation this yeat. Hopefully we will have a chance to do this.
Beautiful, but that tram is way out of my comfort zone! I get nervous on the top third step of a ladder!
