Sandra Bullock Donates to Japan Crisis--What's with the Rest of the Wealthy Celebs?

To Red Cross Tsunami Relief Efforts

Sandra Bullock is number 14 on Forbes list, published in 2007, of the top ten richest celebrities. Obviously she believes in giving back to society.

According to CNN, the Red Cross announced on March 17, 2011 that Sandra Bullock donated one million dollars for relief efforts in Japan. Japan remains in crisis following an earthquake, which precipitated a tsunami, nuclear reactor explosions, and a volcano. This is the highest donation announced so far, although others may have donated anonymously.

Call me cynical, but personally, I doubt that other celebrities have donated such large amounts--otherwise they would be tooting their own horn. Since they could well afford to donate this much, or even a quarter of this amount, it makes one wonder why they don't.

Sure Lady Gaga raised $250,000--but It's always easier to spend someone else's money, rather than take it out of your own pocket. Lady GaGa raised $250,000 by selling "pray for Japan" bracelets to fans

There have been other celebs encouraging fans to buy merchandise from them, with the proceeds going to relief efforts, and that's okay. But, what about giving out of their own pocket instead of asking their fans--who no doubt don't have near the money that they do.

Other celebs encouraging fans to donate include Justin Bieber, Linkin Park (by selling t-shirts) and Katie Perry.

It just seems that others should step up to the plate and give back to a society that has given them so much.
