Sandra Bullock Eyeing First Oscar

Roger Ebert Predicts Best Actress Win for Bullock!

Sandra Bullock has just been nominated for Best Actress for The Blindside. If she wins this would be her first Oscar!

In the movie she portrays a tough minded, Memphis woman who along with her husband decide to take in a boy from the wrong side of the tracks. A 300 pound AA by the name of Michael Oher. Already the buzz being bandied about is that she'll be eyeing her first Oscar, according to Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times.

Although Sandra Bullock has been around for quite some time she has never come close to winning any kind of acting award....of merit. She's won a few People's Choice Awards and a few other obscure ones, but that's it. This is her first year winning a Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild and Critic's Choice awards, as reported by ABC News Entertainment, which is usually, but not always a prelude to winning an Oscar.

To date Bullock has been known more for her off-screen romances with fellow co-stars, including Tate Donovan, the actor who currently stars with Glenn Close on TV's Damages, Mathew McConaghey in a Time to Kill and Ryan Gosling in Murder by Numbers, according to Wikipedia, than her acting ability. All those relationships eventually ended and now she's happily married to Jesse James, motorcycle legend, who's not in the business. Just as well, because most Hollywood romances fizzle anyways!

But what started Bullock on the road to major stardom, according to Yahoo was the memorable character Annie Porter she played in 1994's Speed. A film that also starred Dennis Hopper and Keanu Reeves. In it her
character unwillingly takes over the helm of a runaway bus opposite co-star Keanu Reeves. That role has come to define her acting style, quirky, slightly offbeat, but extremely likable. And one she's continued to play over and over again, in such films as, Miss Congeniality and While You Were Sleeping. Although well-received by an adoring public, critics have been slightly cool towards her. That is...until now with The Blindside.

What's striking about The Blindside, besides being nominated for Best Picture, is its widespread appeal, according to the L.A. Times Originally it was just targeted to older women, but it's grown by leaps and bounds since then. It now draws football fans, African Americans, church goers and people in small towns that movie studios rarely cater to. All because of a careful marketing plan.

However, it's more than just a film about football, it's an inspirational movie. That's why it continues to grow.

To date it has surpassed the $220 million mark, Sandra Bullock's highest grossing movie to date!
