Sanjaya is the youngest contestant at only 17 years old. If Sanjaya makes it to become the #1 American Idol, then he will receive a recording contract and a lot of publicity for his musical career. American idol is an important show since it brought much wealth and fame to ordinary American citizens such as: Taylor Hicks, Carrie Underwood, William Hung, Clay Aiken and Jennifer Hudson.
