Theriault's article, "Five dead, two critically wounded in Santa Clara shooting," goes on to say that the dead included two children of unknown ages and the wounded also included one child.
It appears to be a murder-suicide.
All the dead died of gunshot wounds but details, such as the caliber of gun used and identification of victims was not known or released.
Santa Clara is an upscale neighborhood with well-manicured lawns and is home to young couples and professionals. It was suggested that this was the crime to date and shocked the families in the locale however it appears that Santa Clara has a history of murder-suicides.
There have been, primarily, problems with marriages. In the throes of divorce or separation, one partner or another cannot cope with the situation.
Additionally, in the referenced article it turns out that there is a racial factor in family suicides.
Asian women are two to three times more likely to kill themselves than anyone else. (And, possibly take others with them)
One of the worst by-products of our economic problems is the number of men killing themselves and taking their families with them. They get in a corner where their house is going to be foreclosed on and they think they have no options so they just kill themselves and everyone around them. Then, as a final exclamation point, they may light their house on fire. The mentality is "If I can't have it no one can."
We have had an occasional situations along these lines occur over the years in our area. One thing that interests me is that typically, even though it appears that it was one event that sparked a violent act, the person was well-prepared to carry it out and had been in advance which says to me that they may have been thinking about it for awhile.
Marriages breaking up and finances falling apart are general reasons that people kill, however, there appears to be something deeper going on as well.

Post a CommentWhen will America admit the world's problems are caused by the WAGE system, called Capitalism! It's slavery, DEBT is slavery too, work or starve is slavery, insurance is slavery, taxation is slavery, forced to need a car is slavery! Now we can see America should have ended the wage system & eliminate all the work with automation while working part-time building only 100-story TOWER cities connected to mag-lev TRAINS to save lives & save the EARTH! Cars kill 50,000 people a year, including 2500 children which proves America has done everything wrong.
This is a huge tragedy! There is NO justification for taking someone's else life/lives. No one said this world was going to be easy. To think there are not other solutions to problems, is crazy thinking, period! There is always a solution to every problem. You have to resourceful. There are alot of good people in our community and all over the world. We see every day, people being helped. Churches, clergy, volunteers, corporate donations, food banks, etc.. the list goes on...You have to be willing to swallow your pride and ask for help! So you lost your house and your job. Many people have. Pick yourself up , dust your self off, and live within your means. Get an apartment, or live with family or friends for awhile until you get yourself on your feet. Ask for food stamps, or help from other's. Trust me you will be a better person for it! Material possesions don't bring happiness, love does!
And solid, riveting reporting...by the way :)
The economy has really hit some people's sense of identity and value very hard. Yes, it is just money, but to those people who can't fathom change or loss of money, I guess they can not cope. Sad, so sad!
