Here is one Halloween costume idea that requires no sewing. It's fun and creative. The costume is Santa Claus stuck in a chimney. This Halloween your costume will definitely be a conversation starter. Your first step is to gather your supplies.
Items needed for your Halloween costume:
Large cardboard box- big enough to fit around your body with room for Santa
Brick red paint
Rectangular sponge
Two pieces of rope dyed brick red
Box cutter or a sharp knife
Red sweat pants
Crumpled newspaper
Two red Christmas stockings that have white fuzzy trim
Duct Tape or packing tape
Hot glue
Staples
Assembly:
Use the box cutter to cut off the bottom and the top of the box. Take your sponge and dip it into the red brick paint. Press onto the top of the box starting in the top left corner. It should look like a brick. Repeat all the way around the box leaving 1/4 of an inch between each brick. Start on the next row, but only press half of the sponge at the start so the bricks will be staggered from the ones above it. Continue until the box is completely painted. Set aside to dry.
Measure and cut the rope so that it is long enough to hold the box at chest level. The rope will be on your shoulders like suspenders. Attach the ropes by poking small holes in the top front of the box. Push the rope through the holes and tie into a knot on the inside. Tape the rope down on the inside for additional strength. Attach the ends the same way to the back of the box.
Stuff the sweat pants and the Christmas stockings with crumpled newspaper. Tuck the sweatpants into the stockings. Be sure the feet are facing different directions. Use hot glue to keep the pants in the stockings. Once the glue dries, test to make sure the stockings are secure. If not, use staples or tape on the inside to keep them from falling off.
Put the top of the sweat pants into the top of the box at the front. Push it far enough down that you don't see the top of the pants. Staple to the box. Adjust the legs so that they are hanging down the front of the box.
Wear brick red clothes if possible. Carefully get into the box so that Santa is in front of you. Put the ropes on your shoulders. Your Halloween costume is complete.
You now have a unique and fun homemade Halloween costume. This costume will bring a smile to everyone's face- even the Grinch. Happy Halloween.
