Santaquin, UT 84655
United States of America
Santaquin was settled in 1851 and named for a Ute warrior. Legend has it that the local Ute chief was a peaceable man but his young son was a bit of a hot-head. The brave wanted to massacre the settlers, and so the chief went to the townspeople and explained that if they named the town after his son, it would placate him and take the edge off his temper, saving the residents. The settlers agreed to the name, the chief told his young son, and the massacre was avoided. "Santaquin" is the anglicized form of the Ute warrior's name.
A charming town, Santaquin is known for its many fruit orchards, which include apples and cherries. Its plant hardiness zone is six, and an availability of irrigation water allows residents to grow peaches, apples, and pears, as well as roses and an abundance of other flowers. The town claims a museum, library, parks, several gas stations, fast food restaurants, and a family restaurant named The Family Tree, which enjoys local fame and has been featured in travel and food magazines.
Located in the mountain time zone, Santaquin's area code is 801 and the zip code is 84655.
Because Santaquin is located just off I-15, there is quick, easy access to the surrounding towns, which includes Provo, UT, home of Brigham Young University (BYU) and the BYU Cougars. While sporting events, restaurants, cultural activities, and shopping malls are all within a short distance of Santaquin, the city still retains its small town flavor and atmosphere, making it a good place to live.
