Santia's Pizza and Ribs: The Best Pizza in Anaheim, California

Who Knew?

Loraine Alkire
Santia's Pizza and Ribs in Anaheim, California located on Brookhurst Blvd just off Ball Road serves up the best pizza in the southland. Owned by John and Celeste Santia it is the classic mom and pop pizza place. The trademark for this pizza is definitely in the homemade sauce, a recipe that John Santia formulated years ago when the restaurant opened. The Santia's have been making great sauces and pizza dough at the Anaheim, California location for the last eight years.

The store front isn't fancy. It features typical red and white pizzeria décor with 'outdoor only' seating under a single red umbrella. Most of their patrons phone ahead for pick-up or free delivery. There are no gimmicks and no frills. It's just great pizza. If you visit Santia's once you're likely to become a regular. Frankly, I'd pay a lot more for this pizza but the price is equally delicious. You can get a large pizza for just under eight dollars and that's a real value in these changing times.

Santia's Pizza has built their reputation in much the same way that Philippe's, Original French Dips on Alameda Street in Los Angeles, California has built theirs, using a great uncomplicated menu, fresh consistent quality and astonishingly low prices.

Santia's pizzas come in just two sizes; a large size that will yield a moderate 12 slices of pizza and a smaller single serving pizza good for lunches.

My boyfriend is from New York, so naturally he thinks he knows a bit about pizza. I'm not going to argue with him, because in this case, he is right. I'm a chef and a well traveled one at that. I can tell you from experience that some of the best places I've eaten are quite humble in appearance and Santia's Pizza is no exception.

Santia's has been our sole spot for pizza for the last two years. Our favorite pizza is very simple, one large pizza with extra sauce and extra cheese. John Santia will warn you not to jiggle this molten hot master piece too much as it seems to have a mind of its own. It's worth the risk even if it tips a bit and unevenly divides some of the bounty over the pie. .

I always hesitate when touting my favorite hole in the wall restaurant. I want to get to know the owners and make sure they are going to be around for a while. I want to make sure that they can produce the same quality in workmanship and ingredients for more than a year. Santia's Pizza has exceeded my expectations. Oh, and this pizza is great for breakfast the next day.

So whether you're staying in Anaheim, California because you're visiting Disneyland or you've lived here all your life. I suggest you try Santia's Pizza and Ribs.
