Sara Lee Classic Honey Wheat comes in a mostly clear bag with a band of orange and gold at the open end. Central to the packaging is a logo of red, white, and orange with a homey little picture of raw wheat and a honey jar and dripper. Toward the bottom of this, a red "ribbon" tells us that Sara Lee Classic Honey Wheat is made with real honey. Two orange bars above the logo tell us this bread has 0 grams of trans fat and repeats the claim that this bread is made with real honey, which seems a bit redundant. The end of the loaf has the same logo and tells us to look at the "nutritional spotlight" on the side panel. I like that the side panel gives information for 2 slices of bread and that it gives a balanced nutritional view and doesn't just build up the product. On the side panel we are told that you get 2 grams of fiber and a gram of whole grain per 2 slices, as well as 160 calories (8 percent), 2 grams of fat (3 percent), 280 mg of sodium (12 percent), and 5 grams of sugar. The format is easy to read and lets you know at a glance that Sara Lee Classic Honey Wheat is a fairly healthy product.
When it comes to bread I lean toward the more rustic grainy breads, while my husband and daughter generally prefer white bread. When I turned the package over I found that the manufacturer seemed to be going for an "in-between" characteristic. In a small blurb there, they say that they understand that "in some households white bread is 'too this' and 100% whole wheat is 'too that'. And that they hope "Sara Lee Classic Honey Wheat" is 'just right'. (Sounds a bit "three little bears" doesn't it?) "Sara Lee Classic Honey Wheat" is a pretty happy medium. It's a bit sweet, which makes it nice to eat alone, but the sweetness isn't so pronounced as to make it bad for sandwiches. It's soft, which my family likes, but a little grainy, which I like. And while I prefer something with a bit more heft, (like whole wheat) or strong flavor (like dark rye), "Sara Lee Classic Honey Wheat" is a very nice bread for toast and sandwiches.
Sara Lee Classic Honey Wheat also has a nice bit of nutritional value beyond that listed on the side panel. In each 2 slice serving you get 4 percent of your daily-recommended value of calcium, 10 percent of your daily-recommended value of iron, 15 percent of your daily-recommended value of thiamin, 10 percent of your daily-recommended value of riboflavin, 10 percent of your daily-recommended value of niacin, and 15 percent of your daily-recommended value of folic acid.
So for a bread that makes everyone happy, tastes good, and provides your body with a lot of what it needs, I recommend Sara Lee Classic Honey Wheat bread.
Enjoy!
