Sarah Haskins is once again training and preparing for the Olympic trials. Sarah, from St. Louis, Missouri, is a triathlete. This article looks at Sarah and her attempt to qualify and participate in the London games in 2012.

Beginning and Accomplishments

Sarah competed in her first triathlon in St. Louis in 2003. By 2004, she was a professional triathlete. She began swimming at an early age. Then in college, she began running cross country and track for the University of Tulsa.

Her notable accomplishments include the following. 2006 US National Champion, 2007 Pam American games Silver Medal winner, 2008 Beijing Olympics team member 11Th place, 2010 winner of the following triathlons (Miami, Minnesota and Chicago triathlons.)

In May of this year, Sarah had three wins. The United States Olympic Committee named her the Top Female Athlete for May 2011.

Sarah has set her sights on the London games in 2012. Everything she is doing now is geared towards making the USA Olympic team and participating at a high quality level.

Triathlon and Workouts

The triathlon requires an athlete to swim, bike and run. The athlete must train for all three sports. Each athlete has one event that they are a little bit better at than the other two. Many times, they focus on their weak event.

You can find a sample of an average week of training here at Sarah's web site. Along with her three sport training, she does Spin workouts and weight lifting. She likes to break up her training into three sessions. For example, She does her swim workout in the early morning. She will come back late morning and do her biking. She finishes off her day doing her running workout. In between, she will do Spin and weight lifting. She workouts seven days a week.

Free Time

In Sarah's free time, she likes to read, trail run and bike and watch television. Her and her husband Nathan also like to spend time with her nieces and nephews.

Olympic Trials

The first Olympic trails for the London games will be held in London on August 6, 2011. Outside of those trials, Sarah plans to spend her time training close to home. She has seven major events scheduled in preparation for the games. Baring no injuries, the 30 year old Haskins should be one of the favorites to qualify for her second Olympic games. She looks to improve on her 11Th place finish in 2008.
