Sarah Jessica Parker's Makes Waves with Bitten Clothing Line

America Has Been Bitten

Lucinda Watrous
BITTEN, a clothing line introduced by Sarah Jessica Parker exclusively to Steve and Barry's stores in 2007 has taken America by storm. The question is, why?

The clothing line is the first ever to be launched by the famous actress, most well known for her stint as the lead actress who played the part of Carrie Bradshaw, in the popular now syndicated show, Sex in the City. She launched it with Steve and Barry's store after walking in and being taken aback by the environment. Her clothing line marks the first major women's apparel line in the store, as it was primarily a place for men's casual clothing before.

The name "BITTEN" is derived from the way she was "bitten by the Steve and Barry's bug" and was also meant to be a play on the phrase "bitten by the acting bug".

Perhaps the reason America has gone so crazy for this clothing line is because every piece is $19.98 or less, to go along with Sarah's philosophy, "Fashion is not a luxury, it's a right." One of the stores advertisements proudly boasts a photo of Sarah with the words, "A Sweater Should Never Cost More than your Groceries".

In addition to the economical pricing of the items, the line is designed for more than just your typical model. Many of the lines available have a narrow variety in their sizing. Sarah wanted to be sure that all women had access to fashion, not just the ones with the model bodies. Sizes range from XS-XXL in tops, 0-22 in jeans and other bottoms, and 5-11 in shoes.

There are more than 1,000 pieces in the BITTEN line, and many of them were created from Sarah's inspiration to mimic her own clothing style. In addition to tops, bottoms, and shoes, many other pieces like lingerie and intimates, bathing suits, jewelry, belts, and jackets can be purchased.

To preview the collection, take a look at the clothing line's website, http://www.bittensjp.com. There is not an online ordering feature available yet, through this site, or through the Steve and Barry's website, http://www.steveandbarrys.com. You can see the full collection at the bitten site, along with more information on
Sarah Jessica Parker's philosophy on fashion, and why it should be attainable for anyone regardless of economic status or any other factor.

Great review. I wuill check out the website. I do love her philosophy. I get tired of these one tract fashion bull where you have to be pencil thin to wear anything. Everybody wears clothes and they have a right to have nice clothes too. ANd its great that the clothes are affordable to all.

Great article about a great store that I've heard about. I'm glad to see a star's clothing line focused on prices that many can afford while still being very fashionable.
