Sarah Palin Concerned Over North Korea Missile Launch and U.S. Missile Defense Cuts

Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska expressed her strong concerns over North Korea's successful missile launch.

Governor Sarah Palin said on her PAC Web site:

"I am deeply concerned with North Korea's development and testing program which has clear potential of impacting Alaska, a sovereign state of the United States, with a potentially nuclear armed warhead, I can't emphasize enough how important it is that we continue to develop and perfect the global missile defense network. Alaska's strategic location and the system in place here have proven invaluable in defending the nation."

"Our early opposition to reduced funding for the Missile Defense Agency is proving to be well-founded during this turbulent time," Governor Palin said. "I continue to support the development and implementation of a defensive missile shield based in Alaska. We are strategically placed to defend the critical assets of the United States and our allies in the Pacific Theater."

Governor Palin's official PAC site had more:

"Governor Palin stressed the importance of Fort Greely and the need for continued funding for the Missile Defense Agency. The governor is firmly against U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates' proposed $1.4 billion reduction of the Missile Defense Agency. Greely's isolated location in Alaska as well as its strategic location in the Pacific allows for maximum security and development of the country's only ground-based missile defense complex."

Do we think Governor Sarah Palin, former vice presidential candidate and someone who many conservatives want to see run against Obama in 2012, is accurate in her above statement and do we think her concern is valid?

We all know that if North Korea chooses to hit the United States, the victims will be either Hawaii or Alaska, the two states the missiles can reach. Additionally, statistics revealed by some experts say that, no matter where a missile is launched from in the world, it will take 33 minutes or less to hit the U.S target it is aimed at. Naturally that should concern the Governor's of these two states.

President Obama on the other hand seems to be less concerned about the growing threats facing our country, and just as North Korea was launching the missile, he was, at almost the same time announcing that he will work with Russia to dramatically reduce the stockpiles of our nuclear weapons. It will be great if the total world gets rid of nuclear weapons, but one can only fantasize about it. Certain dictator run rogue states like Iran and North Korea will use this as an opportunity to level the equation regarding nuclear and military strength with us, which will be very dangerous to the world. Obama could have taken out the North Korean missile when it was on the launch pad, and North Korea couldn't have done anything about it, but instead he chose to go to the United Nations. And Russia and China prevented any declaration / resolution whatsoever from coming out of the United Nations, and nothing is going to come out of United Nations given that Russia and China both have unilateral veto power.

US Defense Secretary Robert Gibbs's proposal to cut the much needed Missile Defense system by $1.4billion will only make us become very vulnerable, and one can only question the sanity of this announcement coming out at the same time when North Korea just launched a missile. Here we are, cutting our missile defense spending when North Korea is improving their technology and proved that they could reach us with a missile. Here we are, cutting defense spending when the lives of our sons and daughters are being threatened by radical terrorists and dictator governments.

Naturally Governor Sarah Palin is very concerned and worried, and rightly so. We can only hope President Obama will learn from his mistakes, and become concerned about this before it is too late in the game, before our security is weakened to levels that will put North Korea and Iran on equal footing.
