Sarah Palin: Cover Your A** Girl!

A Post 2008 Election Analysis of the Republican VP Candidate

saba,ink
Okay, now that the election results are in, and her team has lost, Sarah Palin seems to be doing exactly what I predicted in my article; Maverick's Gone, Maverick On The Maverick. That's right folks, she's Covering Her A** aka CYA.

As she sifts thru interview requests from every media outlet including FOX News, NBC News and the Oprah Winfrey Show, Ms. Palin seems to be talking non-stop almost as if the muzzle has been permanently removed from her mouth (pun intended). In some of her recent interviews the Alaskan Governor is quoted as saying; "I thought the election would have been closer." Now, I don't know about you but I really think that illustrates the sort of bubble she was kept in. Did Ms. Palin not see the house of cards caving in around and on her after about two weeks - as her novelty began to wear out? And speaking of wearing out, I wonder what it is like when the Republican national party comes knocking at your door, going thru her closets to get $150,000 worth of their sh** back - well not in so many words but y'all know what I mean. Man, what a hot mess that must be -

Anywho, since Super Tuesday, Ms. Palin has reportedly done about 8 or more interviews, even inviting media into her Alaskan home as she prepares chili and family meal favorites. I'm guessing that's an attempt to redeem herself and present a more maternal, wifely and feminine side - a stark contrast to the pitbull, Sarah get your gun image the campaign tried to packaged her as.

Palin is obviously fighting for her personal and political future - making it VERY clear that in no way is she responsible for the gut-wrenching loss experienced by her party/the GOP. Now, there you go Sarah covering you're a** as I predicted you'd have to do. Ms. Palin has gone on to articulate that the GOP loss was due to several reasons which I outline below. I've taken her published statements and broken them down into "lower 48speak." So, here it goes:

Sarah Palin: "We didn't get the Hispanic vote."

Saba, Ink Analysis: Good, she finally let go of the black thing. Let's hope everyone else can do the same and acknowledge that it took an entire nation to put President-Elect Obama into office. At last count I believe Hispanics accounted for 66% of the Obama win. Again - the final electoral college numbers looked something like Obama - 364, McCain - 174 with 270 out of 538 needed to win. Keep in mind Karl Rove even predicted this sort of return weeks earlier (see link to map).

Sarah Palin: "We were outspent so tremendously."

Saba, Ink Analysis: Good grief, Palin finally acknowledges that the community organizer "thang" actually worked. Being an administrator ie Mayor or Governor does not necessarily make one ready to lead, create change or fund projects. The grassroots organizing campaign she spoke of with such disdain actually trumped her elitist talk. So, much respect for community organizers everywhere.

Sarah Palin: "The anti-incumbency sentiment that was spread across the land and our ticket representing the incumbency."

Saba, Ink Analysis: Good she gets it again - gotta watch that maverick thing. Can't go against and support in the same breath. Plus when you're looking for people on your team to have your back, you can't be dissing them at the same time. Yes Sarah, there is something to be said about building alliances while you're looking to make change happen. Stepping on people on your team members on the way up - means you might just have to tumble down with them - and perhaps they might not be so kind. Yes it was a mandate on policies not individuals - so the character attacks were not the way to go.

Sarah Palin: " Obama did a great job articulating his ability to usher in change. Our ticket represented too much of the status quo."

Saba, Ink Analysis: Finally! After months of questioning Obama's ability to lead she admits that he "got that" - well, actually I think she knew it all along but she just had to keep that whole "pitbull/lipstick" attack persona alive.

Sarah Palin: "I think the economic collapse had a heckuva lot more to do with the campaign's collapse than me personally,"

Saba, Ink Analysis: Why do you think Team Obama stuck to the issues and not personal character attacks. And in the now famous words of former President Bill Clinton -" It's the economy stupid" -

So now that the lights are down, the runway put away, and the meteor's shooting back down to earth, I'd like to know if Ms. Palin still believes that it was the right time for her - or if she now understands the huge undertaking she had signed on for?

No, wait - I think she answered my final question with this comment during her NBC interview. Ms. Palin says; "I didn't know that it would be as brutal a ride as it turned out to be."

If she thinks national politics is rough, imagine how shocked she might have been on a global scale? From one sista to another - Sarah, you've made history and have had a chance to experience something many only dream of. I personally hope Palin takes the experience and grows with it. Who knows, she might just be an agent of CHANGE yet!

Ok, why does everyone believe worthless gossip? Just because your best friends brothers neighbor say something is because of Obama, it doesn't make it true. BUSH is still in office, and BUSH bailed out undeserving companies. Er, well, his administration did. I have a hard time believing Bush did anything on his own.

I'm confused by Shanika's statement - that an Obama Administration is trying to bailout companies - the bailout was passed by all three branches under a Bush Administration. Obama doesn't takeover until January 20, 2009 - so, how could he and his administration be accountable for what is happening before then. We are currently still living under Bush Policies, etc - its true

Agreed with Shanika but you gotta remember that it is all part of the job and we haven't been given a chance to see Obama in action to make his words real. Let's see what happens first.

Some good points though I don't think Palin was stating that Obama is able to lead.... just that his candyland promises of the elusive "change", along with his promises of more handouts were successful in disillusioning many. Already, an Obama administration is trying to bailout even more undeserving businesses. I think we are in for an uncomfortable ride.

LMAO!!!!! I've got a chilled glass of "Gran Marnier" in one hand and a Cuban cigar in the other as I read this. I'M LOVIN' IT!!! Who knew AC had a female version of "The G-Man" lurking about! (LOL) Palin HAS been all over the place. I expect to see her sitting in for CNN's Larry King at some point. I mean.....damn! Hey Sarah? Since people made mention of your HOT body, The G-Man has a perfect vehicle for you until 2012 rolls around: PORN!!!! I'm going to direct you and TODD in your first feature, and it's going to be called......YEP.......DRILL BABY, DRILL!!!!

Well, you were a tiny bit brutal - but an analysis fitting a Barracuda, I guess. Two months on the national stage was exhausting and lots of faux pas were committed (and it was a losing game from day one anyway for her ticket). No, I don't think she could handle a full on campaign cycle, and she shouldn't have accepted the nomination because it now dooms her future Presidential hopes. Think of losing VP candidates who went on to run for President - Dole (Bob), Mondale, and most recently - Edwards. The last guy didn't even squeak out of his party's primary - and these were all seasoned political hands. Palin should focus on governing Alaska and restoring her ratings there.
