Sarah Palin Deserves Praise for Trying to Get Ex-Brother-In-Law Fired
The Troopergate Scandal Shows that Palin Isn't Afraid of Bullies
Allegations say that Governor Sarah Palin abused the powers of her office by pressuring Walter Monegan, the Public Safety Commissioner, to fire Michael Wooten as a State Trooper. Wooten is the ex-husband of Sarah Palin's sister, Molly McCann. Monegan claims Palin fired him because he wouldn't give in to the pressure he received from both Sarah and Todd Palin to have her ex-brother-in-law fired.
I don't believe that Sarah Palin was trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired because she is a power-hungry woman seeking revenge for her sister's divorce. Instead, I believe that Palin was determined to get a man referred to as a "ticking time bomb" and "loose cannon" off of the police force. She had inside information as to what Wooten was capable of, and she knew he should not continue to wear a badge or carry a gun.
No one knows why Walter Monegan ignored Palin's attempts to get Wooten off the force. Perhaps Monegan fell for Wooten's lies. Perhaps Monegan was threatened by Wooten, or perhaps Monegan was simply following the old boys network of thinking. Either way Monegan refused to put the needs for public safety first, so Palin had no choice but to remove Monegan from his position.
What did Michael Wooten do that makes him unworthy to carry a badge or gun? Have a seat, this may take a while...
Wooten used a Taser on his step-son
When Michael Wooten returned home from his Taser training, his eleven-year-old step-son was fascinated by the Taser. Wooten says his step-son begged him to taser him, so Wooten agreed to use the Taser on the boy. He had the boy get down on his knees with cushions surrounding him so he wouldn't fall. The boy later admitted that he wanted to be tasered to show his cousin, Palin's daughter who was also present, that he wasn't "a momma's boy." Palin's daughter said the taser knocked him backward and it had frightened her. The boy admitted that the Taser left a welt on his arm.
OK, so the boy wanted to be tasered. But I'm assuming the equipment was owned by the state, not Wooten. I would think that would count as negligent use of police property. Plus, using a taser on a child is simply irresponsible and shows bad judgment.
Wooten illegally shot a moose
Killing a moose without a permit is a criminal misdemeanor in Alaska. Wooten claims that since his wife had a moose hunting permit, he didn't think he needed his own permit to shoot a moose. I'm surprised he didn't learn the hunting rules while being trained for his position as wildlife investigator for troopers, or while being a wildlife conservation agent at Elmendorf Air Force Base. He was later removed from wildlife investigations.
Wooten drank beer in his patrol car
Adrian and Marilyn Lane, neighbors of the Wooten family, said one morning Wooten stopped by their house in his patrol car. He drank a beer from a fridge in their garage. On his way out he grabbed another beer, popped it open and took off in his patrol car.
This is wrong in so many ways. First of all they said it was morning. Why was he drinking at that time of day? That is a clue to his problems with alcohol. Second, if he's driving his squad car he must be on duty. Can you imagine how frightening it would be to get pulled over by a cop with alcohol on his breath? How did he not get fired for drinking on the job? Third, he was drinking beer while driving. Any citizen caught drinking while driving would certainly be severely punished. Why is a state trooper allowed to get away with this?
Wooten threatened to shoot his father-in-law
Palin's sister, Molly McCann, was worried for her safety, so she asked Sarah to come over in case she needed help. Palin and her 16-year-old son stood outside the window and watched the confrontation between Molly and Michael. Molly had turned the speaker phone on so that Sarah and her son could hear the heated discussion on their cell phone. Wooten, in front of Molly and Molly's small children, and while wearing his trooper gun on his hip, threatened his father-in-law by saying her dad would, "eat a f'ing lead bullet" if he helped Molly get an attorney for the divorce. Wooten denies threatening Palin's Dad, but Molly, Sarah and Sarah's son all swear they heard him make the threat.
Molly obtained a domestic violence protective order against Michael Wooten on April 11, 2005. In her petition she listed the following reasons for the protective order: extreme verbal abuse, violent threats, physical intimidation, multiple drunk driving incidents, threatening her father's life, and his demand to, "put a leash on your sister and family or I'm going to bring them down."
Not exactly the type of man you want in charge of protecting the community.
Michael Wooten has received several official reprimands since joining the force:
Wooten received a memo to clarify his duty hours, tardiness, and conducting personal business during duty time.
He received a reprimand for negligent damage to a state vehicle.
Written instructions were given to Wooten regarding speeding, unsafe lane changes, following too closely and not using turn signals in his state vehicle.
Wooten was officially reprimanded for making personal cell phone calls.
Wooten was also suspended for getting a speeding ticket.
It's obvious that Wooten lacks the moral character and discipline needed to be a state trooper. Wooten has gotten away with things that most people would have been severely punished for. Apparently Walter Monegan didn't see anything wrong with his behavior which is why Palin found it necessary to remove Monegan from his position as Public Safety Commissioner.
What if Sarah Palin had been too afraid to stand up to Wooten and his bully tactics? What if she had cowered under his threats to "bring them down?" What if she hadn't done anything for fear of the public backlash for trying to get her brother-in-law fired?
Sarah Palin stood up for what was right. She did everything in her power to get this man removed from a position of power and authority because no one else was willing to do it.
A critic of Palin's said her abuse of power was "not the traits or temperament you want in someone who could hold the executive power of the Federal Government."
Are you kidding me? Sarah Palin isn't afraid to stand up to the bullies in this world. She's exactly who I want in the Federal Government. High five, Sarah Palin.

Post a CommentSounds like Dallas Texas and Friend of the State are Democrats who are STILL afraid of Sarah Palin.
I bet Wooten is a republican.
Better check your sources on the taser story. That was allegation by Palin's sister.
The chief in Texas just got fired for tasering his wife and leaving marks on her--which just proves Palin's brother in law should have been fired and so should anyone who refused to fire him.
Julie - thank you for writing this! I appreciate knowing the facts. I was always suspicious of the media's line that she was doing this as an abuse of power. I think Sarah is great for standing up for conservative beliefs and for the taxpayers. Hopefully we'll see more of her on the horizon ... :)
Great points.
I completely agree! :-)
very good points here thanks!
