Ending months, if not years, of speculation, Sarah Palin announced that she would not be seeking a nomination to run for president in 2012, leaving the field "much less interesting," according to Stephen Bannon, producer of a Sarah Palin Biopic, "The Undefeated."
Citing a determination to remain supportive of her family, Palin stated that she felt she was on the right path without being a candidate, indicating that she intends to remain involved in politics, albeit in a lesser degree than the presidency. Will Tea Party faithful shed a tear? Since Sarah Palin 2012 is not to be, there are a large number of supporters who now wonder if Sarah Palin indeed even has a future in politics, given her outwardly critical stance against moderate conservatives such as Chris Christie. Has her time then passed?
Recent polls of Republican voters have determined that as many as 1/3 of the majority don't see Sarah Palin as a viable option for a 2012 Presidential campaign, preferring instead candidates who can be seen to independent voters and moderate Democrats to be able to work with congress to get done what needs to get done in 2012 and beyond. They simply don't see Sarah Palin in that light, and as such, her decision to not run as Sarah Palin 2012 makes sense. After all, if she were to run, and lose to Obama, which is extremely likely given her current standing, her personal appearances and popularity would go right into the toilet. Not just professionally speaking, but personally, as well, Sarah Palin is better off not accepting a presidency. This will allow her to continue to speak her mind in any way she sees fit, a trademark for her since the close of the last presidential election. As president, you have to be diplomatic. You can't just tell opposing points of view to shove it. Sarah Palin simply doesn't have that particular mind set.
While Sarah Palin would have made a particularly charismatic president, and certainly the Mama Grizzlys will be disappointed, Sarah Palin once again acted in her and her family's own best interests, and by extension, in the best interest of the United States. With her in office, I would well have been likely that America could have seen at least four more years of political stalemate while the rest of us scrabble to find jobs and keep our homes.
