Sarah Palin and the Hotness Factor

Sarah Palin Ranks High on the Hotness Scale

Charisse Van Horn
Sarah Palin, the former beauty queen, has been getting a lot of flack these days, but one thing is certain. No one is insulting her taste in clothes, fashion, or her sense of style. In fact, it seems pretty clear that when it comes to fashion and beauty, Sarah Palin stands out from the other political candidates. Maybe, she is even the most beautiful political candidate of all time! And it seems that no one can escape her beauty. People that don't care for her still give her credit for her stylish ways. That has to account for something, right? I mean, what other political candidate has set an eyeglass fashion trend, with people whom were blessed with perfect 20/20 rushing off to their nearest vision works to don a pair of Palin lenses?

And did you see Alec Baldwin on Saturday Night Live? I'm sure we all expected him to lash out at the Alaskan Governor, but instead he seemed to be softened by her smile, and we all thought he was sincere when he gave her one of the only "favorable" comments she seems to be getting today, "You are way hotter in person." Though some might even wonder if Alec wasn't trying to demote the governor in the viewer's eyes. To see her as merely a "sex" type symbol, an image that true feminists have fought against for many years. I don't think it helped Palin's VP chance that the highest points she scores is for being "hot" "sexy" and "foxy." But hey, I could be wrong. Alec Baldwin is a man, so maybe he was genuinely sincere. Other cast members have made comments regarding Sarah Palin and her level of "hotness". Don't believe me or doubt that Sarah Palin ranks high on the "hotness" scale? Just do a Google search.

Even the left came to the governor's defense when a Newsweek magazine cover tampered with her beauty and zoomed in on every crow's foot that had left its indelible trace on the beauty queen's skin. Each pore was magnified and the cover appeared more in line with an advertisement for Pro-Activ than a news oriented cover shot.

Now we have the latest scandal, Governor Palin's wardrobe. Just before this attention was paid to Sarah Palin's pricey garments, I saw some videos online of Sarah Palin shopping at Wal-Mart. I even tuned into a bit of Glenn Beck to hear him singing the praise of Palin for shopping at Wal-Mart. I believe he implied that Palin was his type of woman, down to earth, in touch with the middle class. As I looked at the video clip, I asked myself when was the last time I had seen bodyguards at Wal-Mart? Well, maybe they weren't bodyguards, though they were dressed in black and had that "Don't mess with the Gov" type of presence about them, I guess they could have been photographers.

So, now we know that the Republican National Convention has spent 150,000 on the hot governor's wardrobe and makeup. I assume if anything happens to those trademarked glasses, she won't need to worry about scheduling an appointment at Wal-Mart for a new pair. I'm sure the RNC has plenty more in store to keep her looking the part, well at least until Nov.4th. With all of the focus on her beauty, it seems to me that the VP election has been little more than another beauty pageant for Governor Palin. With the smiles, the winks and the nods, it almost seems as if she answers questions for the media as if she were competing for another beauty crown. It's comparable to when beauty pageant contestants are about to be put in the "seclusion" box so they are shielded from the other contestants answers to the most asked question, "If I could change anything in the world, it would be..." Meanwhile, they are secretly praying that the interviewer won't continue prying into their thoughts trying to deliver more in-depth answers to the questions at hand. It is odd to me, that a candidate who had a history in beauty and fashion didn't separate herself from those images. Maybe she can't, maybe her beauty is her greatest strength, I know beauty can be a crutch, and I'm sure her time on SNL was a bit softer for the blow with the focus once again turning to her "hotness". However, running for vice president shouldn't look as if it is another beauty pageant. The V.P. isn't running for a glitzy, sparkly crown and a smile, a wink, and a nod isn't going to win over the hearts and minds of journalists, political analysts, pundits, and good ole folks who care about issues. With all that's transpired, I only have one question.
Does she get to keep the clothes?

Sheryl, you are right about Hillary. But you have to remember that she, like all of us big city liberals, is an elitist and not a hockey mom with small town values. You can't try to present one image and live another.

I don't think Hillary bought her campaign wardrobe at Wal-Mart either!

How can a mother of five not acknowledge his obvious pain that was expressed in that moment? I tell myself that she didn't have a clue what he was talking about, or was daydreaming and hadn't heard what he said. Either way, Joe Biden won me over in that moment, and Sarah Palin failed to convince me that she was in touch with human suffering, let alone the plight of folks like me.

It was Joe Biden that won me over. I had gone back and forth on the issue, but during the V.P. debate, Joe Biden's character shown through. As a woman and mother, Senator Joe Biden broke my heart when he shared that he knew what it was like to sit down at the kitchen table, a single father and wondering if his child would live. He lost his wife and 1 year old daughter right before Christmas, and when the debate went to Sarah Palin she had no response. None whatsoever! I found that odd after she had said that she and Joe Biden agreed on the homosexuality issue, giving the impression that she was more than willing to be friendly and acknowledge their agreements as well as differences. How can a mother of five not acknowledge his obvious pain that was expressed in that moment? If the presidential race were to be decided on looks (hotness) of the VP's alone it's obvious that Gov. Sarah Palin is the clear winner. No doubt about it; she's much sexier than Sen. Joe Biden. However, if based on sincerity, experience and compassion I'd have to say Sen. Joe Biden wins it hands down. What I mean is he seems to have the really important attributes, the ones that count most to and for Americans. He might make verbal gaffs once in a while (well maybe quite often actually) but I believe he speaks from his heart. Sarah Palin may have the ability to distract voters (especially us men, the visual creatures we are) with good looks so we aren't really listening to some of the nonsense she's saying. Perhaps I would call it the Homer Simpson syndrome, like when he see's a donut.
Donuts.... Ahhhhh (drooling)....donuts....Ummmm (fantasizing)...Sarah... Ooooooooo (naughty thoughts).
