Sarah Palin: An Inspiration for Young Women

Coley S.
Regardless of political preference, I think many will agree that the recently announced Republican Vice Presidential Candidate has the ability to be an excellent role model for many young girls and young women in the United States.

On Friday August 29th when Presidential Candidate John McCain announced his running mate Sarah Palin, he also introduced her to the world as she was virtually unknown to many until that moment. She has just become the first ever woman to hold the spot of the Vice Presidential Candidate for the Republican Party.

Sarah Palin has been serving as the governor of Alaska for the past two years. Her start in politics is a bit unconventional and one that I hope can provide inspiration to many young women in the United States regardless of their political preference or views. Sarah Palin is a self proclaimed "hockey Mom" who got involved in the Parent Teacher Association at her children's school.

She never really set out to become involved in politics. She was a self proclaimed "hockey mom" and involved in the Parent Teacher Association at her children's school. That led her to run and become elected to the city council if her town of Wasilla. After serving two terms on the city council, Sarah Palin ran and was elected as mayor of Wasilla. From there, she went on to run for Governor of Alaska and in 2006 became Alaska's first female governor and also the youngest governor.

And now, she's just been chosen as John McCain's running mate. If John McCain is elected as the next President of the United States, Sarah Palin will make history as the first ever female Vice President and the highest ranking elected female official.

Regardless of whether or not Sarah Palin becomes Vice President, I hope that she can serve as a needed positive role model and inspiration to young woman proving that gender isn't an issue when you are following the path you have chosen to follow.
