Sarah Palin Interview to Be Featured in Two Upcoming Documentaries

In a sit-down with former radio talk show host/current documentary filmmaker John Ziegler on Monday, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin took shots at various members of the media, including two figures who spent the latter part of 2008 taking shots at her: Katie Couric and Tina Fey.

Palin participated in the interview for Ziegler's upcoming film, "How Obama Got Elected." Previously released portions of the film, featuring voters who were unable to answer basic questions regarding the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates, created Internet waves almost immediately after the election in November. According to Ziegler, Palin's footage will divided between "Elected" and a subsequent film,"Media Malpractice," which is also currently in production. On Wednesday, excerpts of Palin's discussions with Ziegler were made available on You Tube and Ziegler's official Web site (http://www.howobamagotelected.com/).

In the opening of the roughly nine-minute clip, Palin remarked on the portions of media coverage she found most unsettling following her addition to the Republican ticket. Immediately pointing to early blogger speculation that her infant son, Trig, may actually be the child of her then-17-year-old daughter Bristol - a claim which can hardly be supported mathematically, as Bristol was at the time five months pregnant with her own recently born son - Palin stated, "We're still receiving calls in our state press office regarding Trig, and who is the real mother of this child. When did we start accepting as sources bloggers, anonymous bloggers, especially? It's a sad state of affairs in the world of the media today, mainstream media especially, if they are going to rely on anonymous bloggers for their information."

The segment made it apparent that most of the former Vice Presidential candidate's beef with the media was connected to their seemingly biased treatment against her family. Elaborating that news commentary outlets in print, on television, and online honored the now President-Elect's wishes regarding his own family, Palin said, "When I heard Barack Obama state in one of his interviews on national television that his wife was off limits...meaning, family's off limits...they respected that in him and his demand for that to be adhered to...naively believing that must apply to all of us - but that didn't apply."

She also cited more recent media coverage of Bristol's teenage motherhood circumstance, which include reports that Bristol and her fiancée are high school dropouts, as an example. Last week, reports surfaced that Palin left an angry voicemail message at the offices of People magazine to refute that claim.

Additionally, Ziegler showed Palin clips from a Katie Couric appearance on Late Night with David Letterman. Concerning Palin's purported failure to cite the publications she reads when she was famously interviewed by Couric in October, the CBS Evening News host is seen telling Letterman, "You know Dave...nobody's asked her, you know, why didn't you answer that question?" After quickly handing off the laptop computer used to play the clip to a crew member, Palin quipped, "Because Katie, you're not the center of everybody's universe."

Palin was also shown a Saturday Night Live clip in which Tina Fey mocked her stance on same-sex marriage while concurrently referencing Bristol's situation ("I believe marriage should be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers"). After confirming that she had not seen the footage before committing to appearing on the program some weeks later, Palin remarked, "When you make a suggestion like that, that certainly attacks a kid, that kills me." As for what she called Fey's "capitalization" and recent press accolades for her comedic portrayal, Palin shrugged off the much-ado with the jest: "I'm just helping those outside of my state also keep their jobs secure."

I was not a Palin supporter... ahe was a very poor choice for VP and that came through over and over again. That doesn't make it right to attack her on a personal level, though. In general, I think I've had enough of her! :)

Ditto everyone's comments, especially Kathryn's and Susan's. good job. I'm sure the press will once again have a field day.

Great article, Brook. I think Palin is a savvy, intelligent woman who was pretty much demonized by the media. You know, on a related tangent, it gets me that these talk show hosts -- and I have actually witnessed this numerous time -- will mock Bush for getting his tongue twisted, yet when THEY do it themselves, on their talk shows, in front of their audience, it is just glossed over and the show goes on. No one EVER mocks Leno or Kimmel for getting their own words twisted. What a harsh double standard they impose on conservative officials!

Good reporting, Brook. (^;^) From my perspective, the trouble with the liberal media press is so often there is "much ado" about nothing. There also seems to be no consciousness regarding who is hurt by biased or unsubstantiated reports.

Very interesting, as usual Brook! I saw the clip mentioned on Drudge yesterday; I need to watch it. The double standard in the way Palin's family was treated vs. Obama's is infuriating and appalling ...
