Sarah Palin Owes America an Apology

GOP's Attempt to Dupe America

Sarah Palin was in the news again and this time it was for comments and jokes made by David Letterman that many thought crossed the boundary lines of good taste. Letterman later apologized to Palin and she should do the same.

Sarah Palin should apologize to America.

In the recent presidential election of 2008, Governor Sarah Palin told America that she was ready, willing and able to serve as vice president of the United States. She might have been willing but she certainly was not ready.

Governor Palin's introduction to America was a slow and carefully crafted procedure. For several weeks after being announced as John McCain's running mate in the 2008 presidential election, Palin was kept away from the media and for good reason. Once she was allowed to give interviews, Palin displayed a distinct lack of knowledge in the most basic elements of government and world affairs.

If the truth be told, Palin is not qualified to be the governor of Alaska.

Placed on a stage that was obviously too big for her, Palin tried to use folksy rhetoric to cover up the vast knowledge gap that she had. The McCain campaign worked feverishly to get the governor up to speed on topics that the average high school civics student would have had no problem with.

In her interview with Katie Couric of CBS, when asked what newspapers or magazines she read to keep up on current events, Palin's answer showed a wanton lack of concern for knowing what was going on in the world.

Governor Palin and the Republican Party tried to dupe Americans into believing that she was a viable candidate when in reality she was not.

If elected, Governor Palin could have found herself in the position of being president due to some unforseen circumstance involving John McCain. In that position she could have been called upon to name someone to the Supreme Court. Yet, when asked to name a Supreme Court decision other than Roe vs. Wade, with which she disagreed , she could not.

When explaining her role as vice president as it pertains to the Senate, Palin felt that she would be in a position to influence policy when in essence the vice president's role is to preside over senate proceedings and vote if necessary to break a tie.

Time and again Governor Palin demonstrated how grossly underqualified she was yet the Republican Party continued to promote her as a quality candidate.

Whenever asked a question that she didn't know the answer to Palin would simply go on to a topic of her own choosing. Her incoherent verbal ramblings were the focus of Saturday Night Live comedy skits on a weekly basis.

The McCain campaign's actions in all of this is deplorable. Their sequestering of Sarah Palin from the media was an attempt to sweep her past the American public without giving them a chance to really know who she was.
In essence they were trying to steal the election with a wink and a nod.

John McCain, The Republican Party and Governor Palin herself knew that she was not qualified or ready to be vice president of The United States and America deserves an apology.
