Sarah Palin Scandal Unlikely to Tumble McCain Running Mate

Examining the Skeletons in Vice Presidential Closets a Study in Futility

Sylvia Cochran
The ink is not yet dry on the papers that made Sarah Palin the official John McCain running mate, and there are already rumors of a Palin scandal, a Palin investigation, and even hushed whispers of Palin corruption. Are these facts or just hot air?

Palin Scandal A Black Mark On Palin Ethics?

At issue is the current investigation of whether Sarah Palin incorrectly and without just cause dismissed Walt Monegan. The Palin investigation alleges that his dismissal is a direct result of Mr. Monegan's failure to let go State Trooper Mike Wooten who was embroiled in a bitter divorce with Sarah Palin's sister.

Although Walt Monegan does not go so far as to say that Governor Palin urged him to fire Mike Wooten, the Anchorage Daily News reports that he fingers members of her administration and even immediate family as doing the deed.

Palin Ethics Questions

It sounds like a sublime case of he said - she said, but there are some uncomfortable Palin ethics questions that bear answering: if there were a hint of Palin corruption, where is the tangible proof? Emails, taped phone conversations, witnesses...? Additionally, if Sarah Palin truly wanted her former brother in law fired, why would she do it when he was going to owe child support to her sister?

Was Sarah Palin's Family Trying to Protect Her?

What is getting precious little airplay is the fact that Mr. Monegan was offered documentation from a private investigator that followed up on allegations made by the Palin family which claimed that the future ex-brother in law was a drunk driver, child abuser and poacher, all of which merit a review of the State Trooper's record. When compounded with alleged death threats made to Mrs. Palin and her father, the urgings of the family appear to have merit.

As a matter of fact, there is the record of the State Trooper tasering an 11 year old child! There is also supposed proof that he was a bit too fit for the worker's compensation claim he filed. Additionally, there is a 911 call on record that reports the former Mrs. Wooten needing help because her ex refused to return the children after visitation. He is still a State Trooper.

Palin Scandal a Witch Hunt For Sure - but Who Is The Witch?

Monegan stated to the paper that he was not sure why he was dismissed from his position but he thinks that the Wooten situation could have played a role. Of course, he was offered another job which he then turned down. So, technically, he quit. Apparently thoughts now merit ethics investigations.

Wooten is still employed. As such, he is one in a million ex husbands with a bad divorce, lousy relationship with his ex wife, and on record with the 911 call in center.

Sarah Palin is under investigation for a firing that allegedly has something to do with a personal matter, although everyone is quick to point out that she never actually advocated for anything with respect to State Trooper Wooten. In this supposed Palin corruption scandal, the question must be who the witch is and who is doing the hunting?

I See Your Palin Scandal and Raise You a Biden Ethics Question or Two

Of course, show me a politician without at least a few skeletons in the closet and I will show you a glorified story of Ronald Reagan as retold by Republicans with a short memory.

As reported by the New York Times, Joe Biden himself is no stranger to ethics debacles, one of which having to do with discovered plagiarism in law school. Another New York Times story corrects his assertions of academic prowess.

Then there was the famously infamous statement recorded on CBS News that has him making some racially charged remarks about Americans of Indian descent and 7-Eleven.

Between heaven and hell, life and death, does it really matter that Sarah Palin's husband Todd talked to Monegan about his soon to be ex brother in law, or that Joe Biden knows a good piece of writing when he sees it, even if he does not know how to properly credit it? I don't think so, but you tell me.

Most US women voters 'unimpressed' by McCain's VP pick
"When women voters learn that Palin opposes abortion even in cases of rape and incest, opposes stem cell research and, as governor, opposed funding for state pre-kindergarten programs... a majority say... (they) feel less favorable toward her," the poll showed.
"Women voters see the choice of Governor Palin as being driven by politics rather than by any sense of conviction on Senator McCain's part that she has the experience and qualities to make a good vice president," the research group said in a statement.

Six in 10 women voters see McCain's choice of a female running mate as a calculated political decision rather than one based on Palin's experience and qualities, the poll conducted by the Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group showed.

It should be quite obvious that the extreme right-wing conservative branch of the GOP applied adequate pressure on John McCain to select Gov. Palin as VP. The loudest critics of the right were apoplectic just 6 mos. ago when it became clear that McCain would get the nomination. Limbaugh, Coulter and their ilk declared the GOP would never survive a McCain presidency but with no options, he's suddenly our country's savior. God forbid, after these last horrendous 8 years under the Cheney/Bush admin., that the GOP tactics of fear and intimidation win out again and we see a McCain/Palin fiasco.

In this time of war, any candidate for President should be obligated to choose as a running mate, without regard to politics, one who has the highest credentials to defend this country. Since McCain is the oldest ever to run for the office of President it is even more imperative.
No one can convince me that the 18 month governor of Alaska is that person. The arguments made on her behalf arent't even worth the breath used to spit out the words.

I wanted to vote for McCain. I really believed he had substance and a capacity for wise decision-making. Now I only see a politician who is controlled by the same Bush crowd, the same managers who are taking over his campaign.

Truthwillout, do you really expect Palin's press secretary to talk about the Alaska Gov's child's private life and confidential medical information to the Anchorage Daily News??? Is your best shot at Palin that her daughter is pregnant? Well, at least you didn't criticize her hoop earrings. ;)

That is the most ridicoulous comment. It just shows how ignorant a lot of the american people are. No wonder we don't get respect around the world. Super Powers do fall, and you idoiots are the ones who will let it happen.

Rumors have grown like an uncontainable wildfire overnight as to whether Gov. Palin is Trig's biological mother or grandmother. Watch this video filmed on 2/20/08 of the governor "hiking" to work. Trig was born less than 2 months later. Governor Palin's a liar
