Sarah Palin on the Tonight Show "Rebuffing" William Shatner: Going Through the Motions...Again

Roy A. Barnes
Yahoo! TV reported about the appearance of Sarah Palin on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien last Friday night as she came out to attempt a comedic rebuff to William Shatner. The appearance of Sarah Palin on The Tonight Show saw her reading some excerpts of the William Shatner autobiography Up Till Now. This appearance of Sarah Palin on The Tonight Show came after William Shatner read some of her autobiography Going Rogue to some live beatnik-like music. Unfortunately, the former governor has yet to show any real comedic talent though after two appearances on NBC comedy programs.

Sarah Palin on The Tonight Show: Former Alaska Governor Has Yet To Show Comedic Talent

It isn't the first time that William Shatner has given attention to the former Vice Presidential candidate. In previous Tonight Show episodes, he read out excerpts from the farewell speech of Sarah Palin, seen at YouTube here, as well as her tweets, as shown at YouTube here. Shatner has performed with a straight face, yet with a sense of irony, as only he can do.

When Sarah Palin appeared on Saturday Night Live before last year's Presidential election as seen on YouTube here, she, like with this performance with William Shatner on The Tonight Show, went through the motions. This time, as she read some excerpts from the Star Trek icon's own autobiography, Sarah Palin quickly spoke and put no sense of feeling into her mock poetry reading as she looked at the camera. She didn't even have the William Shatner autobiography open, even though William Shatner did as he read from the former governor's autobiography, which was ghostwritten by Lynn Vincent, according to Salon.com.

Sarah Palin on The Tonight Show: Once Again, She's Used as a Political Sideshow Freak

The former governor comes across in these television appearances as if just her appearance alone is good enough to make a skit. Well, it doesn't. The only thing these appearances on NBC programming show in any positive fashion is that she's a good sport to appear on programs that have used her as comedic fodder. While these television programs will reap the benefits of added publicity because this political sideshow freak attraction called Sarah Palin has appeared on them, she needs to be coached better on acting more comedic instead of going through the motions. I find it lame watching this woman employ no sense of comedic talent, which goes along with her intellectual and political deficiencies.

Pick Pick Pick. She is just a moderately pretty face. We should all just ignore her and let her be.

Her popularity allows for her to not be funny, no matter where she may pop up at.

She was great and was a great sport...once again. I thought it came across really well. I don't understand why it isn't enough for people to simply disagree with her? Why does it have to turn vicious and hateful? You know there are people out there who really are rotten and dangerous. Why don't you go after them? Dang.

You're kidding, right? You think that Sarah Palin needs to be more "comedic"? If she was, then you'd like her a lot, right? She was fantastic on Conan, and on her SNL appearances; she's smart, and funny (and, alas, you can't get rid of her).
