Sarah Palin's Daughter Demands Child Support for Love Child

On December 28, 2007, the oldest daughter of Sarah Palin gave birth to a baby boy fathered by her longtime boyfriend, Levi Johnson. Bristol Palin said she wants child support for the baby and had court documents filed in an Alaska court demanding $1,750 a month retroactive to the child's birth. She said she has only received limited financial assistance from Johnson totaling $4,400 paid in 2009. Johnson, however, says he has paid more than ten thousand dollars to Palin.

The subject of child support came to the forefront when Johnson signed an agreement with Playgirl magazine for a rumored $100,000 to pose nude in the magazine. Up until that time, Johnson had not had a regular job or steady income. Palin also said he has made an estimated $105,000 in 2009 from media interviews and and modeling. Johnson became a popular media figure when he spoke out against Sarah Palin when she was a Vice Presidential candidate. The dispute between the two kept the media busy and provided Johnson with income. Under Alaska law, child support can be up to 20% of the parents income. This would be $1,750 a month if Johnson continues with this amount of income.

The reports of Palin's custody case hit the news in 2009 when Bristol Palin asked the court to seal the records of the proceedings but Johnson wanted the proceedings open to the public because he feared undue influence from Sarah Palin. Johnson said Sarah Palin was political ambitious and is known to be very vindictive. The court agreed with Johnson and kept the proceedings open in the public interest. according to the Anchorage Daily News. In the latest rounds of Palin court cases, the subject of Johnson posing nude for Playgirl entered the court record. However, a spokesman for Playgirl magazine said the photo's were tastefully done and were not done in the nude. They were definitely PG-13 said the spokesman. Bristol Palin, however, has been making the media rounds as well appearing on the cover of magazines, talking to the media and appearing on the morning TV news shows.

The media battle not withstanding, Johnson needs to step up and support his one year old son. The amount of monthly child support is always a contentious issue. Johnson whose career is yet to be determined matches that of Bristol Palin who doesn't seem to have career aspirations herself and seems to be taking direction from her mother instead of making her own way. Johnson has said in the past, he has offered Bristol money but she has refused and he believes she is being controlled by Sarah Palin. Whatever the outcome of the court battles, it will be sure to bring out all the details that the Palins want to keep secret and create a media fire storm at every hearing.
