Saratoga Springs' Skidmore College Offers Summer Sports Camps for Children

Are you looking for a summer sports camp for your children? Your look is over; Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs offers something for every child. Throughout the summer months, Skidmore College, hosts a variety of sports camps for children of all ages. Here you will find everything from baseball to tennis. Some camps focus more on the beginning aspects of a sport; the rules of the game, basic skills, and beginner tips. Other camps are more for the advanced sport goer. These camps focus more on practicing your technique and acquiring new skills. Sign ups for all camps are beginning soon.

All programs are played right at Skidmore College. Most of the camps held indoors are played at the Sports and Recreational Center and the outdoor camps are held at the adjacent fields.

Beginning Baseball Camp for Boys
7 to 12 years-old
July 5th through the 9th
9 am to 12pm
Cost is $160 per child

During this camp your children will learn the fundamentals of baseball. Emphasis will be placed on the basic rules of the game and the beginning techniques. Catching, throwing, hitting, and outfield play will be discussed. At the end of each day a game will be held. Your child needs to bring their own baseball equipment; glove, cleats, bat, and hat. This camp meets on the softball field behind Skidmore's Sports and Recreational Center.

Boys Basketball Camp
8 to 15 years-old
June 28th through July 1st
9am to 4:30pm
Cost is $200 per child

This basketball camp focuses on teaching the players the basic skills needed for personal enjoyment and competitive play of the game. Included in the $200 camp fee are: camp t-shirt, an individual evaluation, and a camp completion certificate. Each camper should bring their own bagged lunch with them daily. Pizza and snacks will be available to purchase for an additional cost. Everyday time will be set aside for the children to have use of Skidmore's swimming pool. A bathing suit and towel are required. The basketball camp will meet in Skidmore's Sports and Recreational Center. Spots fill up quickly so be sure to sign up early in order to claim your spot.

Girls Basketball Camp
For those entering 4th grade through 11th grade
July 19th through 23rd
9am to 3:30pm
Cost is $215 per child

Campers will learn everything from the basics of basketball to more advanced skills. Each day the camp will focus on a different theme. When the camp is completed the girls will walk away with a jump rope, basketball, t-shirt, and camp booklet. Campers should bring their own bag lunch everyday. If not they will have access to purchase snacks and pizza. Early drop off of 8am and a late pick up of 5pm are available at no extra cost to the parents. For the entire camp the girls will meet at the Sports and Recreational Center. Walk up registration is available for an extra fee of $25.

Boys and Girls Soccer
7 to 13 years-old
July 12th through July 16th
Monday through Thursday 9am to 3pm
Friday 9am to 12pm
Cost is $215 per child

This is a positive environment for children to focus on their individual soccer abilities. This particular soccer camp is geared more toward foot work and individual control as opposed to team play. On the first day all campers will be separated into smaller groups based on their age and experience. The soccer camp will hold competitions based on athleticism and skills. At the end of camp each player will receive a t-shirt.

All children need to bring their own soccer equipment to the field each day. Cleats, shin-guards, soccer ball, and bottled water are necessary. A hat, sunscreen, and proper attire for the summer heat are recommended. Each child should also bring a bag lunch with them. Snacks will be available to purchase. The soccer camp will meet at the Skidmore Outdoor Athletic Facility. Space is limited to the first 100 participants.

Tennis Lessons
Tennis lessons are offered for children aged 3 and up. Both private and semi-private lessons are offered.

Private lessons run $40 an hour and semi-private lessons are $30. Lessons are conducted on the Skidmore Tennis Courts. For more information contact Curt Speerschneider at (518) 580-8313.

Swim Lessons
Skidmore College also offers swim lessons throughout the summer months. Swim lessons are offered for children aged four and up. Each swim groups is small to ensure one on one attention. There are 5 different levels of instruction offered.

Participants can sign up for more than one session. Each session will cost $75. Swim instruction will take place at the Skidmore pool. Camps for older children are also available. Some of these camps include; volleyball, an elite basketball camp for girls, lacrosse, and field hockey. All information regarding these camps is available on Skidmore's website.

Online registration for these camps is easy and can be accessed through http://www.sportssignup.com/Skidmore-College-Summer-Camps-Online-Registration.start. No refunds are given after camp starts. However, if you contact Skidmore College by phone at 518-580-8061, seven days prior to the start of the camp you can receive a refund minus a $25 processing fee.
