Saturday Evening

This Saturday was quiet
Didn't feel good with my cold
My head was quite congested
And it left me feeling old

So we stayed in and did the housework
And made the house look neat
Then waited for some friends to come
And have a bite to eat

We had home baked bread and dipping oil
Which was a tasty treat
Then bacon and mushroom pasta
And to make the meal complete

We finished off with strawberries
And some nice green grapes
And a large serving of ice cream
It really went down great

We washed it down with wine of course
And by the time we'd done
Realized that the hours had flown
The time was half past one!

Our guests went home, we tidied up
But really not a lot
We both were good and ready
For the weary land of Nod

It's great when you can dine with friends
And find time to relax
But late late nights can send your
Body clock right out of whack

So Sunday morning we just lay in bed
And took our time to start the day
It had been a lovely evening
But there was a price to pay

So after cups of coffee
Checking email, catching up
It was time for a light breakfast
And a lot of washing up

Entertaining is really not something
That we do most every week
So when friends come round for a meal
It really is a treat

Because my cold is telling me
I need to blow my nose
