A Not so Good Place to Be

This weekend a neighbor took my three kids for the night and my husband and I took the opportunity to have a dinner out. We decided to try Captain D's. It is located here in Hinesville, right on one of the main roads coming towards Fort Stewart. It is located on 107 W. General Screven Way, Hinesville, Georgia, 31313. Their phone number is (912) 876-7995. We had passed it often but had never before eaten there. I had never eaten at a Captain D's but one other time and that was in Hickory, North Carolina. At that time I left with really no impression either good or bad.

Captain D's is advertised as the Seafood Kitchen. It has a variety of fried and broiled seafood. To include shrimp, fish and crab cakes. Entering the restaurant you see very attractive posters up of the different platters. The prices seemed a bit high for me, but since it was just two of us we decided on two different platters that looked like they would be good. I really wanted clams, but though they have them on the website menu, this restaurant didn't have them. So instead I choice the Deluxe Seafood Platter that had 2 classic batter dipped fish fillets, 5 crunchy butterfly shrimp, 2 seafood stuffed crab shells, hushpuppies and your choice of 2 sides for $7.99. My husband choice the Shrimp Lovers Platter. It doesn't seem to be listed on their website, as I look at it now. In the picture it was a variety of their different types of shrimp. The Shrimp Lovers Platter was $6.99 and he added twelve more shrimp for $1.00. He also had to pay for his drink as it wasn't included, but two sides were.

On the posters it advertised that you were supposed to be able to choice your two sides. When we ordered we were never even asked what sides we wanted. There was a large party in front of us so I figured the worker was having a hard time and I would be happy with fries and coleslaw. There were two orders in front of us and one was quite large, but other than that the place was empty. This was a Saturday night and should have been a sign of things to come. It took a full thirty minutes for us to even see our food. It was at least twenty minutes after they had finished up with the orders in front of us. There was drive through orders that were placed and filled before we got our food. There was one woman taking orders and one person doing the cooking, but they both seem uninterested in the customer is first policy most restaurants have.

When we got our food I can tell you it was hot, but that was about its only redeeming quality. There was tons of breading and very little meat. The food was bland and tasteless. The twelve extra shrimp that we had ordered where small and fried to a crisp that made them next to burnt. We went back to ask if he had gotten the correct platter because he only had about ten shrimp on his platter and also had two crab cakes that were not in the description at the counter. After much yelling back and forth between the counter person and the cook, we were assured it was.

Over all the only good thing that I had was the Coke. I was very disappointed in Captain D's and will not be returning there. I would never recommend it to a friend or someone who wasn't a friend. I was very disappointed and for the price that we paid I expected it to be a lot better than it was. If you are going to be trying this particular Captain D's out, I wouldn't recommend it on a Saturday night, even if it is slow.
