Saturday Night Live Back on After Writer's Strike with Host Tina Fey

First Live Show Since Strike Ended

Tina Fey hosted Saturday Night Live February 23rd, making her return as host, and the first time Saturday Night Live has been live since the writer's strike ended. The show was poignant, political and bittersweet. Fey has had super success with her show 30 Rock, and having just won a Screen Actors Guild Award and various other accolades, she is on top of her game as a writer, actor, producer and thought-provoker.

The show Saturday night was funny as usual, but had a political undertone during her guest spot on the news segment, that hit the mark in regard to women empowerment, and showed a current and powerful example by Fey of how not to follow the leader, and to make up one's own mind in regard to the Democratic presidential election.

To paraphrase, Fey remarked about women as feminists, and the "new feminism", why they are not for Hillary Clinton, but "who Oprah tells them to vote for". She said that people may not vote for Hillary because they think she's a "bitch," or that they feel funny that there would be two co-presidents in the White House, "yeah, two intelligent, able-bodied people to get the job done, we wouldn't want that". During her guest spot on the news segment, people cheered and clapped, for what Fey said touched the right chord with the live audience, who are made up of not just New Yorkers, but tourists as well.

She also proclaimed Bitch Power," including herself and Amy Poehler amongst the bitches, and that "the bitches get the job done". As an original SNL writer, Fey wrote much of the news segment, aside from acting and joking around.

Before Fey took the stage, the audience previously had a laugh at Mike Huckabee, poking fun at himself during a skit with Seth Myers, which involved delegates and Democrats, and that he didn't know that those delegates didn't apply to him, a Republican, the skit obviously a farce.

Fey, bringing the news worthy comedy with a strong message, was humbled to be back to her Saturday Night Live roots. She thanked everyone at the end of the show, with a special tribute to long-time show announcer Don Pardoe, who since the 1940's has been with NBC. He just turned 90 years old, and the cast brought him out a birthday cake. In attendance on the show as well was Steve Martin, and Carrie Underwood was the musical guest.

Tina Fey; a funny actress and talented comedic writer,
proves a woman with brains is better than a follower with her biting,
witty skit on SNL's first live show since the Writer's Strike ends.

The only remark I didn't like was the 'bitch is the new black," so I left this out. If Hillary doesn't make it, I would be happy with Obama, I think he is dynamic, smart and well-intentioned, and can turn it all around.

Good review. Glad I didn't have to watch the show. I'm so sick of everything political.
