Saturday Night Live on Saturday February 24th, 2007 ran a featured story about Bismarck, North Dakota's recent Guinness Book of World Records win. The challenge: organize the most people to make snow angels at the same time.

The former title holder for this record is Syracuse, NY with 3785 people making 3785 snow angels. North Dakota held the former snow angel title before Syracuse, NY claimed it.

North Dakota took back the title on February 17th, making the city - once again - the snow angel capital of the world.

People crowded on the snow-covered grass at the capitol building, with hopes as high as the snow they were tossing into the air. After a few practice snow angels, and a lot of waiting around, the moment finally came.
8,912 people showed up at the state Capitol grounds on Saturday to set a world record for snow angels made in one place.

Marilyn Snyder with the State Historical Society finished going through all the registered names yesterday, and discovered she had missed a couple of people.

The names, a video, photographs and verification from observers will be sent to the Guinness Book of Records by the end of the week. Snyder says the record should be verified by sometime next week.

There were news helicopters along with private planes in attendance to take pictures and record the record breaking event for history. There were news anchors in attendance and also were taking part in the event. Monica Hannan, Cliff Nallor, Kevin Lawrence are just to name a few.

It is always exciting when a smaller town gets recognized on a nation wide watched program liked Saturday Nite Live. You couldn't ask for better publicity!
