Saudi Arabia's Intervention in Bahrain Weakens Saudi's Call for Libya Sanctions
Bahrain's Declaration of Martial Rule Makes UN Consensus Against Libya Difficult
The current Middle East drama is transforming into a farce.
Yeah, everybody wants somebody to bell the cat.
But the question is who will bell the cat?
After George Bush's invasion of Iraq, it has become a habit of the world to think that US Army personnel are their family butlers to be at their beck and call.
Yeah, the world's religious groups hate each other. And the various sects within a religion want to kill each other.
But all of them want us Americans to do their dirty jobs, get killed and orphan our American families.
Yeah, if Sunni hates Shia, an American has to die or get maimed or widowed.
And if Sunni hates Sunni, again an American has to die or get maimed or widowed.
Here is their trick. You don't like somebody, go to UN, get a sanction against the opponent.
Then ask Americans to send their young men to fight that somebody.
Ask American taxpayers to foot the bill for anybody's hating somebody in some other parts of the world and sacrifice their youths.
But no where in the constitution of USA it is written that US army should get embroiled in wars not of our making.
USA's border with Canada is peaceful. Problems at our border with Mexico has nothing to do with defense. It is more about socio-economic consequences of drug trafficking.
That our four borders are comparatively safe doesn't mean US Army is rearing to fight in foreign lands.
Yes, we have a responsibility to protect our allies. But that solemn promise should not be misused by our allies as a ploy to start petty ego trips or as a license to indulge in trouble making.
This week's UN Security Council proceedings were a farce enacted by none other than our own so-called "allies."
This exercise in "Consensus" started with Germany's Chancellor who asked President Obama to intervene in Libya. Then the chorus was started by France. France is still peeved by the loss of its previous African colonies. She wants those countries to be still dependent on her. Strange that France doesn't ask for anybody's approval when sending gendarmes to those countries. Oh Yeah, the bilateral treaties.
Then when Security Council convened they all behaved as if USA was the one interested in the no-fly-zone in Libya. They all had reservations!
But they don't have reservations when American youths bleed or get sacrificed in foreign lands at their bidding.
And the Arab stand was most ridiculous. They suppressed demonstrators in their own counties without waiting for anybody's approval (Oh Yeah, the bilateral treaties) but want Americans to save demonstrators in Libya. Their own citizens are bleeding at their own hands but are worried about Libyans bleeding.
They don't have to walk their own talk!
Even in World War II we intervened only when our territory of Pearl Harbor was attacked. At the end of the war President Truman gifted a piece of real estate in the priciest part of Manhattan to the world so that USA won't be dragged into wars of not its own making again. Instead UN has become a hatemonger's den who want US army to do dirty jobs for them.
If any country feels insecure without the protection of the US Army, then they should become a state or dependency of USA and pay taxes. Young American lives are precious. They are not expendable just because some foreigners have behavioral problems.
There is a time to show valor and patriotism by us Americans. But what is needed now is psychiatric treatment for some of world's leaders.
Thank you, Secretary Robert Gates, for taking a principled and firm stand against the tendency here and abroad to send our young men in harm's way on any pretext.
